Hyundai Bayon CNG Could Retain Its 505-Litre Boot With This Tank Setup

Hyundai Bayon CNG launch confirmed for January 2027. An under-boot tank could help preserve its 505-litre boot. Mileage, prices and final tank layout remain unconfirmed.

The upcoming Hyundai Bayon CNG could offer a practical advantage over several CNG-powered SUVs by retaining its large boot space. Hyundai has confirmed that the CNG version will arrive in India in January 2027, and its tank arrangement is expected to be designed to avoid taking up luggage space.

The petrol-powered Bayon offers 505 litres of boot capacity, making it one of the more spacious models in its segment. The expected under-boot floor CNG tank setup could help the upcoming version maintain this practicality, although Hyundai has not yet revealed the exact tank layout.

Hyundai Bayon CNG Could Get an Under-Boot Tank Setup

One of the biggest concerns with CNG cars is the space occupied by the gas cylinder. In many models, the cylinder sits inside the boot, reducing the room available for luggage. The Hyundai Bayon CNG is expected to take a different approach. It could use an under-boot floor tank arrangement, placing the CNG tank beneath the luggage area rather than inside the main boot space. This setup could help the SUV retain its 505-litre boot capacity. However, the final luggage capacity and tank placement will only be clear once Hyundai releases the official specifications.

Hyundai Already Uses a Similar Setup in the Exter

Hyundai already offers a space-saving CNG arrangement in the Exter Hy-CNG Duo. This provides a relevant example of how the company could package the CNG system in another model. A similar approach in the Bayon could help maintain everyday usability while adding the option of running on petrol and CNG. However, Hyundai has not confirmed that the Bayon CNG will use the same tank configuration as the Exter.

Hyundai Bayon CNG: Engine and Expected Performance

The Bayon petrol is powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder MPI petrol engine that produces 115 PS and 143.8 Nm of torque. It is available with a six-speed manual gearbox and an Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT). The CNG version is expected to use the same engine, with lower power and torque output when running on gas. Estimated figures stand at around 100 PS and 125 Nm, although these numbers have not been confirmed by Hyundai. The Bayon CNG is expected to come with a six-speed manual transmission. Whether an automatic gearbox will also be offered remains unknown.

Hyundai Bayon CNG Mileage and Rivals

Hyundai has not announced the Bayon CNG's claimed fuel efficiency. Its mileage will be an important factor when it competes with established CNG SUVs. The Maruti Suzuki Victoris CNG offers a claimed mileage of 27.02 km/kg. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG are also key rivals in this space. The Bayon CNG's final mileage figure, pricing and variant availability will help determine how competitive it is against these models.

Hyundai Bayon CNG Launch and Expected Price

Hyundai has confirmed a January 2027 launch for the Bayon CNG. The existing petrol range is priced between Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The CNG version is expected to cost more than the equivalent petrol variants, but Hyundai has not announced prices or confirmed which trims will receive the new powertrain.

If the expected under-boot tank arrangement allows the Bayon CNG to preserve its 505-litre luggage capacity, it could become a useful selling point. More details about the tank layout, mileage and prices are expected closer to launch.
