Hyundai Bayon Launched With 1.5L Petrol Engine and iVT Automatic

Bayon gets a 115PS 1.5L petrol engine. Six-speed manual and iVT automatic options available. CNG version expected in January 2027.

Hyundai has launched the new Bayon SUV in India at an introductory price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned between the Venue and Creta, the Bayon gets a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox options.

The new SUV is available in seven broad variants: HX2, HX3, HX3+, HX5, HX6, HX8 and HX10. Hyundai has opened bookings, while deliveries are expected to begin during the festive season. Along with its petrol powertrain, the Bayon gets an upright SUV design, a feature-rich cabin and new connected technology. A CNG version is also expected to join the lineup in January 2027.

Hyundai Bayon Engine and Gearbox Options

The Hyundai Bayon is powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. It produces 115PS of power and 144Nm of torque. The same engine is also offered with the naturally aspirated petrol version of the Hyundai Creta. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual gearbox and an iVT automatic transmission. Hyundai uses the iVT name for its continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The iVT automatic is designed to offer smooth performance, particularly during everyday driving and city commutes. Hyundai has also introduced two technologies, called Dash Boost mode and Sporty Drive Tech, to improve throttle response. These features are available only with the iVT-equipped variants. According to Hyundai, they work together to sharpen acceleration and reduce the rubber-band effect often associated with CVT gearboxes. This could be useful when drivers need quicker responses during highway overtakes. Hyundai has not announced diesel or turbo-petrol engine options for the Bayon. However, a CNG version is expected to go on sale in January 2027.

Hyundai Bayon Price and Variants

The Hyundai Bayon starts at Rs 9.99 lakh, ex-showroom, as an introductory price. It is offered in seven broad trims: HX2, HX3, HX3+, HX5, HX6, HX8 and HX10. The HX2 is the base variant, while the HX10 is the top-spec version. The new naming system follows Hyundai’s updated approach to variant identification. The Bayon sits between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s SUV lineup. With a length of around 4.2 metres, it offers a larger footprint than the sub-four-metre Venue while remaining smaller than the current Creta.

Hyundai Bayon Design and Exterior Highlights

The India-spec Bayon gets a tall, upright stance that gives it a stronger SUV look. Its styling follows Hyundai’s latest ‘Art of Steel’ design direction. At the front, the SUV features a sculpted bonnet, H-Edge LED daytime running lights, split LED headlamps and a muscular bumper. Geometric wheel arches, wrap-around door cladding, 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and bridge-type roof rails add to its rugged appearance. The rear features H-Edge tail lamps, an integrated spoiler, a uniquely styled high-mounted stop lamp, a muscular bumper and a shark-fin antenna. The SUV also offers 205mm of ground clearance.

Hyundai Bayon Interior and Features

Inside, the Hyundai Bayon gets a modern dashboard with a curved twin-screen setup. The two 12.3-inch displays serve as the infotainment system and digital driver display. The top-spec variant also gets a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, fully automatic climate control, connected car features and a touch-based climate control panel. An electronic parking brake with auto hold is another key feature. The SUV also gets a new steering wheel design with a four-dot logo and integrated controls. Hyundai says the cabin has been designed to offer good legroom, headroom and shoulder room.

AI Voice Assistant and Connected Technology

The Hyundai Bayon comes with an AI-powered voice assistant developed using technology from SoundHound AI and Perplexity AI. The system is designed to understand natural conversations and respond to a wider range of requests than conventional voice assistants. Drivers can use it to prepare travel itineraries, check the weather and find hotels along a route. The system supports 10 Indian languages.

The SUV also gets Hyundai’s NVIDIA-accelerated Connected Car Navigation Cockpit, known as ccNC. It brings navigation, connected services and vehicle controls together in one digital interface. Hyundai’s BlueLink suite offers more than 70 connected car functions. The Bayon also supports Vehicle Controller Over-the-Air (C-OTA) updates.

Hyundai Bayon Safety

Hyundai says the Bayon has been engineered to secure a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating. However, the official Bharat NCAP crash-test results are expected soon, so its final rating has not yet been confirmed.
