Renault Bigster 7-seater SUV to come with turbo petrol and strong hybrid engine India launch in first half of 2027
Renault is preparing to introduce its new 3-row, 7-seater SUV in the Indian market in 2027. It is basically the 7-seater version of the Bigster or Boreal on sale in select international markets. Positioned as a larger, more practical sibling to the new Duster, the Renault Bigster is aiming to capture family SUV buyers by combining rugged design, 3-row space, and an efficient strong-hybrid powertrain.
Platform & Exterior Styling
The new Renault Bigster 7-seater SUV will be based on the Renault Global Modular Platform (RGMP) that also underpins the new Duster. It shares core structural components with the 5-seater sibling while extending its overall length and wheelbase to accommodate third-row seats.
Key Design highlights will include signature Renault grille, Y-shaped LED DRL signatures, rugged bumper, extended rear doors, thick body cladding, V-shaped tail-lamps and skid plates. The SUV retains a boxy, muscular stance with prominent wheel arches, heavy body cladding and functional roof rails. It will ride on 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels.
Hybrid Powertrains & Performance
The Bigster SUV will be offered with two powertrain options, a 1.3L turbo petrol engine and a 1.8L strong hybrid powertrain. The strong hybrid engine will combine a 1.8L, four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors - a 20bhp motor working as a starter-generator and a 49bhp traction motor that drives the wheels, and a 1.4 kWh battery pack. This setup offers a combined power and torque output of 160 hp and 172 Nm, respectively. The SUV comes with a multi-mode clutchless automatic gearbox.
The 1.3L turbo petrol engine is capable of producing 160 bhp and a peak torque of 270 Nm, and is paired with either a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed DCT.
Key Interior Features
The SUV will share features and interiors with the Duster; however, it is expected to offer more premium comfort and convenience features. The 7-Seater Bigster will have dual digital display setup comprising a 10.1-inch central touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument console.
It will have split folding second-row seats for easy third-row access. The higher-spec variants will have 6-seat layout with individual captain seats. In terms of features, the SUV will have panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, and wireless smartphone charging.
For safety and security, the Renault Bigster 7-seater gets multi-airbag setup, 360-degree surround view camera, ESC, hill-start assist, and a LEVEL 2 ADAS suite.
Estimated Price and Competition
The new Renault Bigster is scheduled to be launched in first half of 2027. We expect the SUV to cost somewhere between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 24 lakh, ex-showroom. It will directly rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Hyundai Alcazar, and Tata Safari.
