Renault Duster and Nissan Tekton 7-seaters to share underpinnings. Duster 7-seater will be available with the strong hybrid and turbo-petrol powertrains.
Renault-Nissan Alliance has been utilizing badge engineering in India for a very long time, and the new Renault Duster and Nissan Tekton are the latest models to follow this strategy. Both carmakers have already confirmed the arrival of the 7-seater versions of the Duster and Tekton, which will share the same platform, powertrains, components and features. The key differentiating factor the two SUVs will be their respective brand-specific design languages.
The upcoming Renault Duster 7-seater SUV is expected to look largely similar to the standard model. However, it’s likely to feature a longer body with an extended rear overhang to accommodate an additional row of seats. Stuble design changes are also expected. It could derive several styling elements from the Renault Boreal, which made its global debut last year.
Similar to the Renault Boreal, the 7-seater Duster is expected to measure 4,556mm in length, 1,841mm in width and 1,650mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,702mm. While the interior layout will be slightly revised to accommodate the third row of seats, it’s likely to offer all features available on the Duster.
The feature list might include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, 6-way powered and ventilated front seats, dual zone climate control, a powered tailgate, multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera, an electronic parking brake, tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors and more.
The upcoming Nissan 7-seater SUV is expected to retain most of its design elements from the 5-seater Tekton. It’s likely to feature Nissan’s Patrol-inspired design language, including an upright grille, C-shaped LED DLRs, slim LED headlamps and full-width LED light bar integrated into C-shaped taillamps. Compared to the Tekton, it will be longer and more spacious with a third-row seat. Most of the features will also be carried over from the Tekton.
Both the 7-seater Renault Duster and Nissan Tekton are expected to share their powertrains with their 5-seater counterparts. The SUVs are likely to be offered with a 1.0L, three-cylinder turbo petrol and 1.3L, four-cylinder turbo petrol engines, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The Renault Duster 7-seater will additionally be available with a 1.8L strong hybrid powertrain. It consists of a 1.8L, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, dual electric motors and a 1.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The combined power and torque output stand at 160PS and 212Nm, respectively.
