Renault to launch Bigster 7-seater SUV in early 2027 Tekton based 7-seater Nissan SUV testing begins
The Renault-Nissan Alliance is now preparing tall-new three-row 7-seater SUVs in the Indian market. The upcoming models - the Renault 7-seater Bigster/Boreal derivative and the Nissan 7-seater SUV - are engineered to directly rival the established players like the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus.
Both 7-seater SUVs will be based on the Renault Global Modular Platform (localised version of the CMF-B modular architecture). To accommodate third-row of seats, Renault designers have extended the overall length and wheelbase beyond their 5-seater siblings.
The wheelbase will be increased to 2702mm, which is about 43mm longer than the Duster, to ensure legroom across the second and third rows. The SUV will measure around 4.6 meters in length, and expected to offer a ground clearance of over 200 mm to tackle rugged Indian roads.
While sharing platform, sheet metal and glassiness, each model will retain their respective brand aesthetics. The French SUV will be inspired by the Dacia Bigster and the Renault Boreal SUVs on sale in the global markets. On the flip side, the Nissan SUV will adopt a bolder front design inspired by the global Patrol SUV.
Renault and Nissan have already announced to completely ditch diesel in favour of petrol and hybrids in India. Both SUVs will be powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, direct-injection turbo petrol engine producing 160bhp and 280Nm of torque, paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. Select top-tier turbo petrol variants are also likely to feature a terrain-management 4WD system.
Similar to the Duster hybrid, the Renault Bigster will also get the 1.8-litre strong hybrid engine, featuring two electric motors, a 1.8L NA petrol engine and a 1.4kWh battery pack. This engine produces 160hp and 172Nm of peak torque, and is paired to a dedicated 3-speed hybrid gearbox.
Both SUVs will be offered in flexible 7-seater (2+3+2) bench configurations and 6-seater (2+2+2) options with second-row captain seats. Key features will include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a 10-inch digital driver display, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone charging and others. For safety and security, the new SUVs will get six airbags, ESP, Hill-Start Assist, ISOFIX mounts, and a 360-degree camera system along with LEVEL 2 ADAS tech.
By localising these two SUVs at the Renault’s manufacturing facility in Chennai, the alliance aims for aggressive pricing. We believe that these SUVs will cost somewhere around Rs 13.5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.
