Honda upcoming electric SUV called the ALPHA To rival Tata Sierra EV and Hyundai Creta Electric
Honda Cars India will reveal its first battery electric vehicle on December 2, 2026. The company has officially announced that the upcoming midsize electric SUV will be called the Honda Alpha. It is essentially the production version of the 0 Alpha concept, and is currently undergoing rigorous road testing.
The new Honda Alpha will be manufactured locally at Honda’s Tapukara facility in Rajasthan for both domestic and global markets. It will directly rival the Tata Sierra EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, and Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq. We expect the new SUV to cost somewhere between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 24 lakh, ex-showroom.
The SUV is currently undergoing extensive real-world testing across India, including high-altitude testing in Manali and rough-road validation around Tapukara. The Alpha EV features a boxy silhouette, flat bonnet, squared-off wheel arches, and an upright tailgate. It comes with full-width horizontal LED light bars at the front and vertically-stacked LED tail-lamps. The Honda Alpha is likely to feature an 18-inch aero-optimised alloy wheels aimed at reducing drag and extending highway driving range.
Inside the cabin, the SUV will be designed around Honda’s “Man Maximum, Machine Minimum” design philosophy. It will have a landscape-oriented central touchscreen infotainment unit paired with a standalone digital driver’s display. The dedicated EV platform will allow Honda to offer flat floor structure, which offers excellent rear-seat knee room and legroom. In terms of features, the electric SUV is likely to get ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic glass roof, wireless smartphone connectivity, and Honda Sensing Level 2 ADAS.
Speaking on the announcement, Mr. Toshiyuki Yanagisawa, President & CEO, Honda Cars India, said, “We are delighted to announce Honda ALPHA as the official name of our upcoming electric SUV. Honda ALPHA represents our ambition to bring advanced electric mobility to our customers in India while delivering the quality, reliability and joy of driving that Honda is known for.” “With India serving as the global production base for this model in future, it is an important step in Honda’s electrification journey and reflects our strong commitment to the Indian market. We look forward to ushering in a new chapter for Honda in India with this exciting new offering,” he added.
