Honda Zero Alpha EV could get a 2,800mm wheelbase Expected to offer more than 500km of range Cabin could get 360 camera, Level 2 ADAS and wireless charging
Honda is preparing to launch its first electric SUV in India, with the production version of the Zero Alpha concept expected to go on sale by the end of FY2026-27. The upcoming EV has already been spotted testing on Indian roads and will be produced locally at Honda’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan. The production name of the SUV is expected to be announced later this year. Honda also plans to export the electric SUV from India, with Japan among its key international markets.
The new Honda electric SUV is expected to be around five seats and could get a wheelbase between 2,700mm and 2,800mm. This would make its wheelbase roughly 100mm longer than the Honda Elevate. A wider track is also expected, while the SUV will follow Honda’s latest design approach with a relatively low roofline and generous ground clearance. The packaging is expected to focus on offering good cabin space despite its sleek exterior.

The test prototypes spotted in India suggest that the production model will retain several styling elements from the Zero Alpha concept. At the front, it gets projector-style lights and an enclosed fascia, while the side profile features flush door handles and aero-style wheels. The rear has an upright design with slim vertical tail lamps, an integrated spoiler and a rear wiper. The concept also featured an illuminated Honda logo and a full-width rear lighting signature.
The cabin will have a more modern layout compared to the Honda Elevate. It is expected to feature a large central touchscreen alongside a digital driver display and a flat-bottomed three-spoke steering wheel. The steering wheel is likely to get paddles for adjusting regenerative braking levels. Physical climate controls are positioned below the touchscreen, offering easier access to frequently used functions. Other expected features include a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, wireless smartphone connectivity, dual-zone climate control and wireless charging.
The Honda Zero Alpha is rumoured to get a battery pack between 65kWh and 75kWh. CATL-sourced battery cells are also reportedly being considered. With a large battery pack, Honda is expected to target a claimed range of more than 500km on a single charge. Details about the electric motor, charging capacity and final battery specifications are expected to be revealed closer to the launch.
The upcoming Honda electric SUV is expected to be positioned between Rs 17 lakh and Rs 25 lakh, ex-showroom. It will enter a growing electric SUV segment and compete with models such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra XEV 9e, Tata Sierra EV, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella and MG ZS EV. The SUV will be manufactured at Honda’s Tapukara facility, which is also being prepared to supply export markets. Honda has reportedly committed around Rs 1,200 crore towards EV manufacturing at the plant.
