Maruti’s New 7-Seater EV - Key Details Out

Maruti’s new 7-seater EV expected to launch in 2027 Will share electric platform and technology with e Vitara Expected price could be around Rs 14 lakh-18 lakh

Maruti Suzuki is working on a new three-row electric car for India, which is expected to launch in 2027. The upcoming model is often described as a 7-seater electric SUV, but it is likely to have more of an MPV-style design with a focus on space and comfort. Test versions of the electric car have already been spotted on Indian roads, giving us some idea of what to expect.

Will Share Technology With e Vitara

The new 7-seater EV is expected to use the same electric platform as the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. It will be based on the HEARTECT-e platform, which has been developed for the company’s electric cars. The e Vitara is available with 49kWh and 61kWh battery options. The bigger battery offers a claimed range of up to 543km. The new three-row EV could use similar battery and motor technology, but its range is likely to be lower.

This is because the new model will be bigger and heavier than the e Vitara. Its boxier shape could also affect its efficiency. Maruti could offer the same battery options, but the final range figures are yet to be confirmed.

Space Will Be a Major Focus

The new electric car is expected to be aimed at families looking for more space. With three rows of seats, it could offer enough room for seven passengers and also provide a more practical cabin than the e Vitara. The design seen on test cars also points towards an MPV-like shape. It appears to have a tall and upright body, a large rear section and a more vertical front and rear end.

The tail-lamps are placed vertically and wrap around the rear windscreen. The car also gets regular pull-type door handles, unlike the flush handles seen on some newer EVs. Maruti is likely to focus heavily on cabin space and everyday use, much like it does with the Ertiga and XL6.

Expected Battery and Range

The battery and motor details of the new EV have not been confirmed yet. However, since it will share its platform with the e Vitara, some of its electric technology could be carried over. The e Vitara gets 49kWh and 61kWh battery packs, with the larger battery offering up to 543km of claimed range. The three-row EV is unlikely to match this figure because of its bigger size and higher weight. More details about the battery, motor and range are expected closer to the launch.

Expected Price

Maruti is expected to position the new 7-seater EV below some of the more expensive electric SUVs in the market. While there is no official price yet, it could be priced between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 18 lakh. The new EV could take on upcoming electric models such as the Kia Carens Clavis EV, along with larger five-seat electric SUVs.
