Maruti's next EV could be a 7-seater electric MPV with up to 515km of range. The higher version could use a 61kWh LFP battery and a 172hp electric motor. The Maruti YMC is expected to launch in India in the first quarter of 2027.
Maruti Suzuki is working on its second electric car for India, and this time it could be a 7-seater electric MPV. Internally known by the codename YMC, the new EV is expected to be unveiled towards the end of 2026 and could launch in India in the first quarter of 2027. The new model will follow the e Vitara and is expected to be designed mainly for the Indian market. It could also rival the Kia Carens Clavis Electric when it arrives.
Maruti YMC Could Offer Up to 515km Range
The biggest highlight of the upcoming Maruti electric MPV could be its driving range. The YMC is expected to be offered with two battery options. The base version could get a 49kWh LFP battery paired with a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing around 142hp and 193Nm. This version could offer a range of around 415km.
The higher version could get a larger 61kWh LFP battery with a more powerful motor producing around 172hp and 193Nm. It could offer a driving range of around 515km. These figures are expected specifications and have not yet been officially confirmed by Maruti Suzuki.

6 and 7-Seater Options Expected
The Maruti YMC is expected to be offered in both six- and seven-seat versions. The six-seat version could feature captain's chairs in the second row. The upcoming EV is expected to have a spacious cabin aimed at family use. The dashboard, centre console, door panels and switches could take inspiration from the Maruti e Vitara.
Expected features include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.1-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone charger and 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat. Front ventilated seats are also expected, while the availability of ventilation for the second-row seats is yet to be confirmed.
SUV-Like Design With e Vitara Elements
Despite being an MPV, the YMC is expected to get a more SUV-like design. Test cars have shown similarities with the e Vitara around the bonnet, A-pillars, side mirrors and wheel arches. The electric MPV could also get 18-inch aero alloy wheels. At the rear, the L-shaped tail lamps could take inspiration from the Maruti Ertiga. This mix of MPV practicality and SUV styling could help the YMC stand out in the growing electric car market.
ADAS and 360-Degree Camera Expected
Maruti Suzuki is also expected to offer several advanced safety features with the new EV. The YMC could get features such as Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Prevention, Adaptive Cruise Control and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Seven airbags and a 360-degree camera are also expected to be part of the equipment list. A panoramic sunroof is yet to be confirmed.
Maruti YMC Launch Expected in 2027
The Maruti YMC is expected to make its debut towards the end of 2026, followed by an India launch in the first quarter of 2027. It will become Maruti Suzuki's second EV after the e Vitara. With a possible seven-seat layout and more than 500km of range in its higher version, the YMC could become an important model in Maruti's future electric car line-up.
