Hyundai To Launch Bayon-Based SUV & New Punch EV Rival – Full Launch Details

Hyundai confirms Bayon-based midsize SUV for India launch. New compact EV to rival Tata Punch EV coming this financial year.

Hyundai Motor India aims to strengthen its presence in the SUV segment with multiple new product launches and a multi-powertrain strategy. During the company’s recently held Q1 FY27 earnings call, the South Korean automaker has confirmed the launch of two new models – a midsize SUV and a compact electric SUV.

The upcoming Hyundai midsize SUV will be based on the Hyundai Bayon is sold in European market, and is set to hit Indian roads during the 2026 Diwali season. Codenamed Bc4i, this new SUV will be positioned below the Creta in the company’s product lineup and will be sold alongside its elder sibling.

Measuring 4.18 metres in length, the Hyundai Bc4i is reported to be offered with petrol and CNG powertrain options. The petrol version is expected to feature the brand’s proven 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, paired with either a manual or a CVT automatic transmission. Hyundai might also offer the same 1.5L petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG kit. The CNG cylinder will be mounted underneath the vehicle, freeing up boot space.

Codenamed HE1i, the upcoming Hyundai compact electric SUV will rival the segment leader – the Tata Punch EV. Spy shots suggest that the EV could be based on the Hyundai Inster, which is already on sale in international markets. It will feature a tallboy and upright stance, with a sealed-off grille, split headlamps, high mounted LED DRLs, prominent wheel arches, up to 17-inch alloy wheels and a squared-off tailgate.

The interior details of the new Hyundai compact EV are still under wraps. However, it’s expected to be packed with features such as ventilated front seats, a dual screen setup (a 10.25-inch infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display), a sunroof, wireless Android Suto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, Hyundai BlueLink connected car features, OTA (Over-the-Air) updates, ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) and many more.
