Hyundai Neira Electric MPV to Enter Production Later This Year

Hyundai has unveiled the Neira electric MPV at GIIAS 2026. The production model is expected to arrive before the end of 2026. It is likely to share its platform with the Kia Carens Clavis EV.

Hyundai has unveiled the Neira electric MPV prototype at the 2026 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). The new model previews Hyundai's first dedicated electric MPV for Indonesia, with the production version expected to arrive before the end of this year.

The Neira is part of Hyundai's growing EV lineup and was showcased alongside the Ioniq 3, Ioniq 9 and Staria EV. However, the Neira grabbed attention as it marks Hyundai's entry into the electric MPV segment in Indonesia.

Production to Begin in Indonesia

Hyundai has confirmed that the Neira will be built in Indonesia. The company says the production model will have more than 60% local content, including batteries sourced locally.

While Hyundai has not revealed the technical specifications yet, the Neira is expected to share its platform with the Kia Carens Clavis EV. If that happens, both models could use similar battery packs, electric motors and charging technology.

Modern Design With SUV-Like Styling

The Neira prototype looks very close to the production model. At the front, it gets Hyundai's signature full-width LED light bar, slim daytime running lights and vertically placed headlamps.

It also features a closed front grille, silver bumper inserts and an upright stance that gives it a more SUV-like appearance than a traditional MPV.

From the side, the Neira gets a long roofline and large windows to improve cabin space. Black body cladding, silver roof rails and dual-tone alloy wheels add to its bold look.

The prototype also rides on Hankook iON Evo AS tyres, which are specially designed for electric vehicles.

Rear Design Focuses on Practicality

At the rear, the Neira gets vertically placed LED tail lamps connected by a slim light bar. Other highlights include a roof spoiler, large rear bumper cladding and a silver skid plate.

The prototype also features rear parking sensors, suggesting that the production model is likely to offer a good list of safety and convenience features.

Battery and Range Could Match Kia Carens Clavis EV

Hyundai has not shared battery or motor details yet, but the Neira is widely expected to borrow its electric powertrain from the Kia Carens Clavis EV.

If it follows the same setup, the Neira could be offered with 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery packs. The larger battery is claimed to deliver up to 490 km of range, while the smaller one offers up to 404 km.

Power output could range between 135 hp and 171 hp, with 255 Nm of peak torque. The MPV may also support 100 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in around 39 minutes.

Will Hyundai Bring the Neira to India?

Hyundai has not announced any plans to launch the Neira in India. For now, the electric MPV is being developed for the Indonesian market.

However, since it is expected to share its platform with the Kia Carens Clavis EV, the Neira could attract attention in other markets as demand for electric family vehicles continues to grow.
