Maruti Suzuki sold 2.2 lakh CNG vehicles in the first quarter of FY27. CNG demand grew 58% compared to the same period last year. The company aims to sell 9 lakh CNG vehicles in FY27.
Maruti Suzuki is seeing strong demand for its CNG vehicles as more customers look for cars with lower running costs. The company has now set a target of selling 9 lakh CNG vehicles in FY2027 (April 2026-March 2027).
India’s largest carmaker already has the biggest CNG portfolio in the country, with options available across hatchbacks, sedans, SUVs, MPVs and commercial vehicles.
Maruti Suzuki sold 2.2 lakh CNG vehicles in the first quarter of FY2027 (April-June 2026). The company said CNG demand increased by 58% compared to the same period last year.
Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer – Marketing & Sales at Maruti Suzuki, said the company expects CNG sales to continue growing in the coming months.
In FY2026, Maruti Suzuki sold more than 7 lakh CNG vehicles in India. With the new target of 9 lakh units, the company is aiming for around 28.5% growth this financial year.

Earlier, CNG cars were mostly chosen by small car buyers. However, the demand has now moved towards bigger vehicles, including SUVs.
The Maruti Suzuki Victoris is a good example of this trend. More than 50% of Victoris sales come from the CNG variant.
One of the main reasons behind its popularity is the underbody CNG tank design, which helps save boot space. This makes the SUV more practical for daily use.
After the strong response to the Victoris, Maruti Suzuki has also introduced a similar CNG tank setup in the updated Brezza.
Maruti Suzuki currently offers 15 CNG models across its passenger and commercial vehicle range.
The company sells CNG cars through its Arena and Nexa dealerships, while commercial CNG models are available through its commercial outlets.
The CNG range includes popular models like the S-Presso, Baleno, Grand Vitara, Brezza, Victoris and Ertiga, along with commercial vehicles.
The rising demand for CNG cars is also visible in Maruti Suzuki’s sales numbers. The company said 42% of its domestic sales last month came from CNG models.
With fuel efficiency becoming an important factor for Indian car buyers, CNG vehicles continue to attract more customers.
Maruti Suzuki expects this demand to grow further and believes its wide CNG line-up will help it achieve the 9 lakh CNG vehicle sales target in FY27.
