Next-gen Kia Sonet and Tata Nexon launching in 2027 Fronx to receive mid-life facelift Renault and VW to launch sub-4 meter SUVs
The sub-4 meter SUV segment is set to receive a new set of new models in the coming year. The segment will witness the arrival of brand-new models, next-gen overhauls, and mid-cycle refreshes. Here is the list of top 6 confirmed upcoming sub-4m SUVs in the country by 2027.
Next-gen Kia Sonet
Kia has started road testing of the second-generation Sonet in India. It is expected to be launched in the first half of 2027, most probably around 2027 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. In the new avatar, the Sonet will be wider and more spacious compared to the existing model. It will be based on the new K1 platform that also underpins the Hyundai Venue and Kia Syros.
The new Sonet will come with an upgraded cabin with twin 12.3-inch curved displays, and improved Level-2 ADAS while retaining its petrol, turbo-petrol, and diesel powertrains. Kia has also confirmed that the next-gen Sonet will receive a strong hybrid engine sometime in 2028-29.
Volkswagen Compact SUV
Volkswagen has officially announced plans to enter the sub-4 meter segment with an all-new compact SUV in 2027. The new model will be the re-badged version of the Škoda Kylaq, but VW will make enough design and interior changes to give it a distinct look. It will be powered by the same 115hp, 1.0-litre TSI engine paired with an 8-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.
Renault Bridger
Renault has confirmed that the Bridger concept based compact SUV will be launched in India in the first half of 2027. It will be based on the same RGMP platform that underpins the Renault Duster This new compact SUV will be powered by a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox options. Kia could also introduce its hybrid and electric derivatives at a later stage. It will be marketed as a lifestyle SUV, featuring a rugged, boxy design and a tailgate mounted spare wheel.
Mahindra Vision S
Mahindra is actively testing the production version of the Vision S concept based SUV, which will mark the debut of Mahindra’s new NU_IQ modular platform. It is expected to be revealed in production avatar at the 2027 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. This lifestyle boxy SUV is rumoured to be the smallest member of Scorpio family. It will get a rear tailgate-mounted spare tire, panoramic sunroof, and support for ICE, hybrid, and electric powertrains.
Maruti Fronx Facelift
Maruti Suzuki will give a mid-life update to its popular crossover, the Fronx by March 2027. The updated model will receive cosmetic design and interior changes along with a longer list of features. It could also get Suzuki’s new series hybrid engine, which will utilise a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine, a small battery and an electric motor. The Fronx hybrid could offer a fuel efficiency of over 35kmpl.
Next-Gen Tata Nexon
Tata Motors will launch the next-gen Nexon compact SUV by 2027. The SUV will utilise the significantly upgraded version of the existing platform. It will come with brand-new design, updated interior layout, and enhanced EV and ICE options.
