New Tata Nexon to Get Four Powertrain Options

New Nexon could get petrol, diesel, CNG and EV versions. The SUV is expected to move to Tata’s ATLAS platform. Next-gen Nexon.ev is also planned for 2027.

Tata Motors is working on the next-generation Nexon, which is expected to arrive in India in 2027. The new compact SUV is likely to continue Tata’s strategy of offering multiple powertrain choices, with petrol, diesel, CNG and electric versions expected to be part of the lineup. The next-gen Nexon, internally codenamed Garud, will also get a major platform and design update. It is expected to move to Tata’s ATLAS architecture, which already underpins the Curvv.

Petrol, Diesel, CNG and EV Options

The biggest highlight of the new Nexon could be its wide powertrain range. The ICE version is expected to continue with Tata’s 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine. A twin-cylinder iCNG version is also likely to be offered. This setup could allow Tata to provide a CNG option while making better use of the available boot space. Alongside these versions, Tata Motors is also expected to introduce the next-generation Nexon.ev. This will allow the company to continue offering the compact SUV with both conventional and electric powertrains.

New ATLAS Platform

The next-gen Nexon is expected to shift to Tata’s ATLAS (Adaptive Tech-Forward Lifestyle Architecture) platform. The architecture also underpins the Curvv and is designed to support improved crash safety, better rear-seat space and a more advanced electronic architecture. The new platform is expected to give Tata more flexibility with the Nexon’s different powertrain versions.

Boxier Design Expected

Spy images suggest that the new Nexon will adopt a slightly boxier and more angular design. The changes are expected to improve cabin space, particularly for passengers in the second row. The SUV could feature split LED lighting, a sharper tailgate and an updated glasshouse. While the overall design is expected to evolve significantly, the Nexon’s compact SUV proportions should remain familiar.

Next-Gen Nexon.ev Also Planned

Tata Motors is expected to launch the next-generation Nexon.ev alongside the ICE versions. Details about its battery pack, electric motor and range are not available yet. The current Nexon.ev is already an important model in Tata’s electric portfolio, and the next generation is expected to bring further improvements in technology and packaging. The new Nexon is scheduled to launch in 2027. More details about its engines, electric powertrain and features are expected closer to the launch.
