Tata Sierra ICE AWD Launch Timeline; CNG Could Join the Range

Tata Sierra All-Wheel-Drive version launch expected in 2027 CNG could be offered with dual-cylinder tech

In a bid to improve market share, Tata Motors is preparing to expand its iconic Sierra SUV lineup. Built on the flexible ARGOS platform, the Tata Sierra is structured to offer multiple powertrain and drivetrain options across petrol, diesel and CNG along with front-wheel-drive and AWD configuration.

While the Sierra EV is already available with a dual-motor AWD configuration, the ICE-powered Tata Sierra is also ready to receive an all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant in 2027. Adding to it, Tata Motors could also introduce the CNG version of the SUV.

Key Details of Tata Sierra AWD

Launch Timeline - H1, 2027
Engine Choices - 1.5L Turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel
Competition - Maruti Grand Vitara AWD and Toyota Hyryder AWD

The Tata Sierra is set to mark the return of an AWD system in Tata Motors's ICE-powered line-up since the discontinuation of the HEXA. The SUV is likely to receive a dedicated mechanical drivetrain designed for light off-roading and rough terrains.

The AWD system is expected to be offered with the both petrol and diesel version of the Sierra. The Sierra Petrol is powered by a 1.5-litre TGDi engine that produces 158 bhp and 255 Nm of torque. While the oil burner gets a 1.5-litre Revotron unit producing 116 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

Potential Dual-Cylinder iCNG Addition

Launch Timeline - Expected in Early 2027
Competition - Victoris CNG
Engine - 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol + dual-cylinder CNG

To cater to budget buyers looking for high efficiency fuel options, Tata Motors is also evaluating the addition of a twin-cylinder iCNG engine to the Sierra range. It is expected to be offered with the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which will be tuned for optimal torque delivery under CNG.

It will get two smaller 30-litres tanks placed below the rear luggage board to preserve usable boot space. Similar to the other Tata CNG cars, the Sierra CNG will start directly in CNG mode.
