Tata Safari EV launch expected in January 2027 Next-gen Nexon likely debut at the 2027 Auto Expo
Tata Motors is aiming to manufacture up to 1 lakh vehicles a month from the next financial year, and has asked its suppliers to ramp up capacity. The company is planning to invest Rs 37,500 - 40,000 crore over FY27-FY31 as it targets a 20 per cent share of India’s passenger vehicle market and annual sales of over 1.2 million units by FY31. The company is aiming to introduce 3 all-new SUVs in 2027, including the Safari EV, next-gen Nexon and the Avinya nameplate.
The next-gen Tata Nexon and Safari EV are scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2027, most probably around Bharat Mobility Global Expo. These two models will be based on revised architecture, upgraded battery tech, and LEVEL-2 ADAS safety tech.
Expected Launch: Early 2027
Estimated Price: Rs 8 Lakh - Rs 15.50 Lakh (ICE) | Rs 14.50 Lakh - Rs 19.50 Lakh (EV)
Key Details: New Platform & Gen-2 Acta.EV Architecture
Powertrain: 1.2L Turbo Petrol, 1.2L iCNG, and 1.5L CRDi diesel
The company has started testing the next-gen Nexon compact SUV on the Indian roads. Internally codenamed Garud, the all-new Nexon will be launched in the Q2, 2027. We expect the production model could be revealed at the 2027 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. The SUV will retain the coupe-SUV design, but it will have a more flatter roof section and a taller, more upright C-pillar to free-up space in the second-row.
The spy images reveal that the next-gen Tata Nexon will have a sharper and more angular A-pillar design, wider rear haunches, a flatter rear windscreen and new wheel arches. Inside the cabin, the new SUV is expected to get larger digital screens for infotainment and instrument console, an augmented reality HUD, LEVEL-2 ADAS, panoramic sunroof, front and rear-parking sensors, and enhanced connected-car features.
The SUV is likely to be based on the Tata’s acti.ev platform that also underpins the Punch EV and Curvv EV. The SUV will continue to be offered with the 1.2L turbo petrol and dual-cylinder iCNG setups. Tata Motors could also offer a flex-fuel version of the SUV.
Expected Launch: January 2027
Estimated Price: Rs 25 lakh - Rs 32 Lakh
Battery Options: 65 kWh and 75 kWh Liquid-Cooled LFP Battery Pack
Estimated Range: 500km - 550km
Tata Motors is currently leading the electric passenger car segment with over 40 per cent market share. In order to strengthen its market position further, Tata Motors is preparing to launch its first 3-row electric vehicle - the Tata Safari EV in the country in early 2027. The electric SUV will rival the Mahindra XEV 9S and the MG Hector Tomahawk EV.
The SUV will be built on the Acti.ev+ platform, which also underpins the Tata Harrier EV. It will be offered with 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs. Few media reports claim that the 7-seater EV could get a larger 80 kWh battery pack. We expect the SUV to offer a realistic range of around 450-500km on a single charge.
The SUV will look largely identical to the ICE-powered Safari. However, it will have EV-specific design and interior changes. On the outside, the Tata Safari EV will have a closed-off grille, aero-optimised alloy wheels and revised badging. Inside the cabin, the SUV will have triple screen layout, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and a powered tailgate.
