Next-gen Tata Nexon testing begins Debut likely at 2027 Bharat Mobility Global Expo
Tata Motors has started public road testing for the second-generation Nexon. Internally codenamed Garud, the all-new Tata Nexon is scheduled to be launched around mid-2027. It will arrive nearly a decade after the original sub-compact SUV debuted in 2027, and early pre-production test mules confirm significant structural and visual changes from the outgoing iteration.
Key Visual & Design Changes
Flatter Roofline & Upright C-Pillar: instead of the coupe-like roofline, the prototype has a flatter roof section and a taller, more upright C-pillar. This could be done to improve rear-seat headroom.
Redesigned Glasshouse & Pillars: the spotted model has a sharper and more angular A-pillar design, which is complemented by a completely redesigned rear door stampings.
Muscular Rear Design: the prototype was heavily covered in thick cloth; however, it still reveals wider rear haunches, a flatter rear windscreen, new wheel arches and a larger integrated roof spoiler.
Temporary Design Elements: the spied model uses temporary tail-lamp clusters and current-den alloy wheels, which suggests that exterior lighting and bumper designs are still under development.
Next-gen Tata Nexon: What to Expect?
Tata Motors is expected to follow multi-fuel strategy for the next-gen Nexon. It is expected to retain the 1.2L turbo petrol and dual-cylinder iCNG setups. Tata could also add a flex-fuel version. The existing 1.5-litre diesel engine may be phased out due to cost escalation associated with meeting stricter emission norms.
The new Tata Nexon EV is expected to utilise the Tata’s acti.ev platform that also underpins the Punch EV and Curvv EV. The ICE model will use the upgraded version of the existing X1 platform.
The cabin is expected to receive big changes in the form of larger dual-screen digital setup for infotainment and instrumentation, an augmented-reality HUD, LEVEL 2 ADAS, panoramic sunroof, front and rear-parking sensors, and enhanced connected-car features.
