Next-Gen Tata Nexon Coming in 2027 – New Design, CNG and EV Options

Next-gen Tata Nexon spotted testing with major design changes. Petrol, CNG and EV options are expected, while diesel could be dropped. New cabin, digital features and more safety technology are likely.

Tata Motors is preparing the next-generation Nexon, with the new compact SUV expected to launch in India in 2027. Internally codenamed Garud, the SUV has already been spotted testing on Indian roads under heavy camouflage.

The new Nexon is expected to bring major changes to its design, cabin and powertrain options. Tata is also expected to continue with CNG and introduce a new-generation EV, while the future of the diesel engine remains uncertain.

New Tata Nexon gets a different design

The test vehicle retains the familiar proportions of the current Nexon, but several areas appear to have been redesigned. One of the biggest changes can be seen around the C-pillar, which looks more upright and substantial than before. The rear doors also appear to be completely new.

The current Nexon has a sloping roofline that gives it a coupe-like appearance. The new test mule appears to have a flatter roof, which could improve rear-seat headroom and give the SUV a more upright look.

The A-pillar also gets a sharper and more angular shape. This suggests that Tata is making deeper changes to the body structure rather than simply giving the Nexon another facelift.

Rear design will also change

The rear section of the new Nexon appears more upright and angular. The rear windscreen is flatter than the one on the current model, while Tata is also testing a new tailgate and a larger roof spoiler.

The rear bumper and wheel arches are expected to be redesigned as well. The test vehicle currently uses temporary tail lamps and some other parts from the existing Nexon. This indicates that the SUV is still in an early stage of development, with the final production design likely to look different.

CNG and EV options expected

The next-generation Nexon is expected to continue with petrol and CNG powertrains, while a flex-fuel option could also be offered. However, the future of the current 1.5-litre diesel engine is less certain. Tata may decide to drop the diesel option as updating the engine to meet upcoming emission rules could increase costs.

A new-generation Nexon EV is also expected. Tata could introduce the electric version separately from the petrol and CNG models, giving the company a wider range of powertrain choices in the compact SUV segment.

New cabin and more technology

The cabin of the next Nexon is expected to receive a major redesign. Tata could introduce new digital displays, an updated infotainment system and more connected-car features. Additional safety technology is also expected as the company looks to make the new Nexon more competitive with newer rivals. More details about the interior and feature list are likely to emerge as development progresses.

New Nexon to face strong competition

The next-generation Tata Nexon is expected to launch in 2027, when it will enter an even more competitive sub-4-metre SUV segment. It will continue to rival the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV 3XO. New models such as the Mahindra Vision S and Renault Bridger will also add more competition.
