Project Garud: 2027 Tata Nexon's Biggest Secrets Revealed

Project Garud is the codename for the next-generation Tata Nexon. The SUV is expected to receive major design and platform changes. Petrol, CNG and EV versions are likely to continue.

Tata Motors is preparing a major update for one of its most successful SUVs. Internally known as Project Garud, the next-generation Tata Nexon is expected to arrive by mid-2027 with significant changes to its design, platform and cabin.

The Nexon has been one of Tata's best-selling models since it was launched in 2017. After receiving facelifts in 2020 and 2023, the SUV is now getting ready for a full generational update.

A Completely New Look

The biggest change under Project Garud is expected to be the SUV's design. The next-generation Nexon is likely to adopt Tata's latest design language with a sharper front-end, updated lighting elements and a more modern overall appearance. The cabin is also expected to receive a new dashboard layout, improved materials and the latest infotainment and connectivity features.

Platform Will Receive Major Upgrades

The new Nexon is expected to continue using Tata's X1 platform, but with extensive structural changes. The platform has been updated several times over the years, and Tata engineers are now expected to strengthen it further to improve safety, refinement and overall driving dynamics.

Petrol, CNG and EV Versions Expected

The next-generation Nexon is likely to continue with the familiar 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with manual and automatic gearbox options. A CNG version is also expected to remain part of the lineup. The Nexon EV will also receive major updates as part of the new generation. However, it is still too early to know the exact battery and motor specifications.

The future of the 1.5-litre diesel engine remains uncertain. While the current engine meets BS6.2 emission norms, upgrading it to comply with future BS7 regulations could increase costs. Tata Motors has not confirmed whether the diesel version will continue.

More SUVs Are on the Way

Project Garud is part of Tata Motors' larger product plan for the coming years. The company is also preparing to launch the Safari EV and the Avinya range in 2027. In addition, Tata is developing a new lifestyle SUV that will be positioned between the Tata Nexon and the Tata Curvv. The upcoming model is expected to feature rugged styling inspired by the Tata Sierra.

Launch Expected in 2027

Tata Motors has not officially revealed the next-generation Nexon or shared details about Project Garud. However, reports suggest the SUV is scheduled to arrive by mid-2027.
