Tata Osprey - Renamed Nexon to Launch in South Africa

Nexon to launch as Osprey in South Africa Set to join the Tiago, Punch, Curvv and Harrier

Tata Motors will launch the Nexon in South Africa as the Osprey in the second quarter of the current financial year, that’s between July and September 2026. The Tata Osprey compact SUV will join the Tiago, Punch, Curvv and Harrier in the South African market. The name Osprey is inspired by a bird of prey commonly found in South Africa.

The company hasn’t released much information about the upcoming Osprey. Similar to the Nexon sold in India, the Tata Osprey will also be sold with a five-star NCAP safety rating. Speaking on the new compact SUV, Jeff Allison, general manager - Marketing and Product, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles South Africa, said, “South African customers increasingly demand vehicles that combine contemporary styling, technology, practicality and safety along with excellent value for money, and the Tata Osprey delivers on all fronts.”

The SUV is expected to be offered with two engine options - a 120hp, 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 115hp, 1.5L, 4-cylinder diesel. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 5-speed AMT and a 6-speed DCT. Tata Motors hasn’t confirmed about the launch of the fully electric version of the Osprey.

In terms of features, the compact SUV is expected to get dual 10.25-inch displays, automatic climate control, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and a JBL audio system. It is also likely to get ADAS suite with features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind spot monitoring and others.
