New Petrol, Hybrid and Electric SUVs Coming to India Soon

Hyundai Bayon and Mahindra Vision S are expected to bring new petrol SUV options to India. JSW Combat could introduce plug-in hybrid technology with all-wheel drive. Honda 0 Alpha EV is expected to join India's growing electric SUV market.

The Indian SUV market is set to see several new launches before the end of 2026. Automakers are preparing to introduce models with different powertrains, including petrol engines, plug-in hybrid technology and fully electric systems.

The upcoming line-up includes the Hyundai Bayon, JSW Combat, Honda 0 Alpha EV and Mahindra Vision S. These SUVs are expected to target different buyers, from those looking for a petrol-powered crossover to customers considering an electric SUV or a rugged model.

Here is a closer look at the four upcoming SUVs expected to arrive in India by December 2026, including their expected launch timelines, prices, engines and key features.

1. Hyundai Bayon: Petrol SUV Expected in October

The Hyundai Bayon is expected to launch in India on October 26, 2026, with an estimated price of Rs 9 lakh to Rs 15 lakh. It could sit between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai's SUV line-up. The crossover is expected to use a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 115 PS and 144 Nm of torque. Transmission options could include a six-speed manual and an IVT automatic.

The Bayon could feature a full-width LED daytime running light bar, split LED headlamps, connected tail-lamps and 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, expected features include dual 12.3-inch displays, a generative AI voice assistant, offline voice commands in six regional languages and over-the-air updates. Safety equipment could include six airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, hill-start assist and Level 2 ADAS with a reported 23 functions.

The Hyundai Bayon could rival the Honda Elevate and Maruti Suzuki Victoris. Final specifications, pricing and launch details remain subject to confirmation.

2. JSW Combat: Plug-In Hybrid SUV Expected in December

The JSW Combat is expected to launch on December 4, 2026, at an estimated price of Rs 30 lakh to Rs 40 lakh. It is expected to use a plug-in hybrid powertrain combining a petrol engine with electric motors. The reported setup includes a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, two electric motors and an 18.4 kWh battery pack. Combined output could reach around 360 hp and 610 Nm of torque. An all-wheel-drive system with electric four-wheel-drive modes is also expected. This setup could allow shorter journeys on electric power while retaining the petrol engine for longer trips.

The JSW Combat is expected to feature boxy styling, high ground clearance and a rugged exterior. Inside, it could get a 15.6-inch touchscreen, 540-degree surround-view cameras and Level 2 ADAS. Depending on its final positioning, the SUV could compete with the Jeep Meridian, Hyundai Tucson and Mahindra XUV 7XO. The Combat could also bring more attention to plug-in hybrid technology in India, offering an alternative to conventional petrol and diesel SUVs.

3. Honda 0 Alpha EV: Electric SUV Expected in December

Honda is expected to introduce the 0 Alpha EV in India on December 2, 2026. Its estimated price could range from Rs 18 lakh to Rs 24 lakh. The electric SUV is expected to become Honda's first mass-market all-electric SUV for India. Local production is planned at the company's Tapukara facility in Rajasthan. The model follows Honda's global “Thin, Light and Wise” electric vehicle strategy and is expected to retain several design elements from the concept showcased at the Japan Mobility Show.

The Honda 0 Alpha EV could feature a closed front grille, an illuminated Honda logo, a high roofline, a thick C-pillar and a vertical tailgate with a U-shaped LED light bar. 19-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels are also expected. Inside, the electric SUV could get a central touchscreen, a digital instrument display and a flat-bottom steering wheel.

Reported battery options include 65 kWh and 75 kWh packs, with a claimed range of more than 500 km. Honda has yet to confirm the Indian model's final battery specifications, charging performance and range. Once launched, the Honda 0 Alpha EV could compete with the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and upcoming Tata Sierra EV.

4. Mahindra Vision S: Compact SUV Expected by December

Mahindra is expected to introduce the Vision S in December 2026, with an estimated price of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15 lakh. The model is expected to be a sub-four-metre SUV and could become the smallest member of the Scorpio family. It is likely to target buyers seeking a compact SUV with rugged styling. The Vision S is expected to use Mahindra's NU_IQ modular architecture. Its reported wheelbase is 2,665 mm.

The Mahindra Vision S could offer a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine, paired with six-speed manual or torque-converter automatic gearboxes. An electric version could arrive later, although its launch timeline is unconfirmed.

The concept features squared-off wheel arches, upright LED lighting, high ground clearance and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Expected cabin features include dual 10.25-inch screens, a twin-spoke steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof and physical controls for the climate system and off-road modes.

The Vision S could compete with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon and Hyundai Venue. Its final pricing, engine options and equipment will determine its position in the compact SUV segment.
