Next-gen Tata Nexon Codenamed ‘Garud’ Set for 2027 Launch

Next-gen Tata Nexon launch expected by mid-2027 To be based on the modified X1 platform

Tata Motors is preparing to launch a wide range of new models, including the Safari EV and Avinya range of EVs in the country in 2027. Adding to it, the company is drawing up plans for a full generational shift for its top-selling compact SUV. Codenamed "Project Garud," the next-generation Tata Nexon is expected to make its commercial debut by mid-2027. The 2027 model will come with significant structural and design changes.

2027 Tata Nexon Key Details

First launched in 2017, the Tata Nexon has been the best-selling subcompact SUV for the homegrown automaker. Since its launch, the SUV has received two major facelifts in 2020 and 2023. The SUV is reportedly to be based on the existing X1 platform, which was first introduced in the late 1990s. However, the platform has been upgraded multiple times over the years. Tata engineers will make massive structural changes to the Nexon’s platform.

Tata designer’s will also make significant changes to the design and interior of the new Nexon in line with new Tata models.The next-generation Tata Nexon is expected to be offered with petrol and CNG powertrains. It is early to comment whether the SUV will get a diesel engine or not. The current model gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which meet the BS6.2 emissions norms without the use of an expensive SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system. However, this engine will need to be upgraded to meet the upcoming BS7 emission regulations which will be expensive for the Indian market.

The SUV will continue to be offered with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox options. Not just the ICE, the new Nexon EV is also likely to receive a significant upgrade.

Tata Motors is also working on a new lifestyle SUV, which will be positioned under 4 meters. This SUV will slot between the Nexon and Curvv in the lineup, and will be marketed as a lifestyle SUV. It is likely to share the styling with the Tata Sierra.
