Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG Set to Launch Next Week

Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG to launch on October 15 Expected to use a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine Could cost around Rs 1 lakh more than the petrol version

Mahindra is set to add a new powertrain option to the XUV 3XO lineup with the launch of its CNG version next week. The new Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG is scheduled to make its debut on October 15, 2026. The CNG version will join the existing petrol, diesel and electric variants, making it the fourth powertrain option for the compact SUV.

Expected CNG Powertrain

The XUV 3XO CNG is expected to use the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with multi-point fuel injection (MPFI). In its petrol form, this engine produces 111hp and is likely to be the more suitable option for CNG conversion. Mahindra has not yet revealed the power and torque figures for the CNG version. The SUV is also expected to retain its manual gearbox, although official transmission details will be announced at the launch.

CNG Tank Could Affect Boot Space

One of the key challenges for Mahindra will be packaging the CNG tank. The XUV 3XO already has a relatively small boot compared to some of its rivals, and adding a CNG tank could reduce usable luggage space further. Mahindra could use a dual-cylinder setup or place the tank underneath the boot floor to minimise the impact on practicality. The final layout will be revealed at the launch.

Will Rival Brezza and Nexon CNG

The XUV 3XO CNG will enter a growing compact SUV CNG segment. Its main rivals will include the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG and Tata Nexon CNG. The new powertrain could also help Mahindra attract customers looking for lower running costs while retaining the higher seating position and SUV body style.

Expected Price

Mahindra is expected to announce the XUV 3XO CNG price at the launch next week. It could command a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the equivalent petrol variant, although the final price will depend on the equipment and CNG technology offered. The XUV 3XO CNG will also help Mahindra expand its factory-fitted CNG portfolio as stricter CAFE III emission norms are set to come into effect from April 2027.
