Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG to rival the Tata Nexon iCNG To get dual-cylinder setup to offer usable boot space
The battle for sub-compact SUV dominance set to intensify today, October 15, 2026, as Mahindra is all set to introduce the Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG. The addition of a factory-fitted dual-cylinder CNG powertrain introduces a fourth fuel option to the XUV 3XO lineup alongside its existing petrol, diesel, and electric variants. It will directly target the Tata Nexon iCNG, Maruti Brezza CNG and Toyota Taisor E-CNG. However, the XUV 3XO and Tata Nexon are the only two SUVs offered with turbocharged petrol-CNG setup with a dual-cylinder tank layout to preserve boot space.
Similar to the Nexon, Mahindra has adopted a dual-cylinder CNG tank setup positioned beneath the rear boot floorboard. By adopting this new tech, Mahindra preserves functional boot space, keeping it competitive against the Tata Nexon iCNG’s 321-litre twin-cylinder setup.
| Specs | Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG | Tata Nexon iCNG |
| Engine Type | 1.2L 3-Cylinder TCMPi Turbo Petrol | 1.2L 3-Cylinder Revotron Turbo Petrol |
| Power Output (CNG) | ~100 PS (Estimated) | 100 PS @ 5,500 rpm |
| Torque Output (CNG) | ~150 Nm (Estimated) | 170 Nm @ 1,500–4,000 rpm |
| Transmission Options | 6-Speed Manual (AMT under evaluation) | 6-Speed Manual |
| Tank Technology | Dual-Cylinder System | Dual-Cylinder System (60L Water Eq.) |
| Direct-Start CNG | Yes | Yes |
Most of the segment rivals offer CNG options with naturally-aspirated engines, Mahindra pairs its factory CNG kit with the 1.2-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine:
This turbocharged engine offers mid-range acceleration and highway overtaking ability, minimising the power drop typically experienced when switching from petrol to CNG.
It is expected that the CNG option will be available across multiple mid-spec and high-spec trims, including the MX2, REVX M and AX5. The higher-spec variants will get the dual 10.25-inch screen setup (digital cluster + central infotainment display), wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, steering-mounted controls, and rear AC vents. For safety and security, the SUV will have 6 standard airbags, ESP, hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a micro-switch fuel lid cutoff, thermal incident protection and an auto-gas cutoff valve. Select CNG variants of the Mahindra XUV 3XO will also feature a panoramic sunroof.
The standard petrol XUV 3XO is available at a starting price of Rs 7.79 lakh, ex-showroom. The CNG variants are expected to command a premium of around Rs 80,000 to 1 lakh over equivalent petrol trims.
Expected Price Range: Rs 9 lakh to Rs 12 lakh.
