Hyundai to launch Bayon SUV with underbody CNG tank Carens and Carens Clavis to get factory-fitted CNG kit
Seeing the rising fuel prices, car manufacturers in India are looking at alternative fuel options. CNG-powered vehicles are gaining huge popularity among buyers. Not just private owners, fleet operators and taxi drivers are also buying CNG cars. Automakers are also introducing CNG versions of their existing models and the upcoming models. Here is the list of top 5 upcoming CNG cars in India in the next 1 year.
Hyundai Bayon
The Korean automaker, Hyundai will launch the long-awaited Bayon midsize SUV in the country this Diwali. The new model will be the first Hyundai measuring over 4 metres in length to offer a CNG option. It will be powered by a 1.5L NA petrol engine with a company fitted CNG kit. If reports are to be believed, the Bayon will come with an underbody CNG tank. It will directly rival the Maruti Suzuki Victoris CNG, which also gets an underbody CNG tank.
Tata Curvv CNG
Tata Motors has launched the new Curvv Series X, which comes with new features and variant line-up. The Coupe SUV is also expected to receive CNG powertrain. Tata Motors has already said that it plans to introduce CNG powertrains in more vehicles measuring over four metres. It is expected to use Tata’s dual-cylinder CNG technology. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine coupled with twin CNG cylinder tanks. This powertrain is capable of producing 99bhp of power and 170Nm of torque, and is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Tata Sierra CNG
The new Tata Sierra has recently been spotted testing for emissions, which suggests that it could be a CNG version. Tata has already confirmed that it will introduce CNG option with bigger models, measuring over 4 metres. It is based on the ARGOS platform, which is capable of accommodating CNG kit. It is expected that the i-CNG tech will be offered with the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. The SUV will rival the Maruti Victoris CNG, Grand Vitara CNG and the Toyota Hyryder CNG.
Kia Carens Clavis CNG
The Korean automaker is preparing to launch factory-fitted CNG version of the Carens Clavis, which is expected to be launched before Diwali 2026. In fact, testing of the Carens Clavis CNG has already been commenced on the Indian roads. The Carens gets a government-approved dealer-fitted CNG kit supplied by Lovato. Both models will get a factory-fitted CNG kit. The MPV will use the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
