Tata Sierra Petrol & Diesel Set to Receive All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Capability

Tata Sierra turbo petrol and diesel to get AWD setup Based on the ARGOS platform Launch in 2027

We informed you earlier that Tata Motors is preparing to launch the AWD version of the ICE-powered Sierra. The Tata Sierra EV is already available with dual-motors for all-wheel-drive (Quad-Wheel-Drive) capabilities. Adding to it, the SUV is also expected to get a CNG powertrain in near future.

The Tata Sierra will be the first ICE-powered model from the homegrown automaker to receive an all-wheel-drive setup. The Hexa was the brand’s last model  to offer 4x4 drivetrain, and the Sierra will become Tata’s first modern ICE   vehicle to send power to all four wheels.

The new Sierra ICE is based on Tata’s brand new All-Terrain Ready Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable Architecture (ARGOS) platform. Unlike older architectures that restricted rear-axle power delivery, the ARGOS is designed and engineered from ground up to support both FWD and AWD drivetrains along with multiple fuel options. Jeep will also source the new ARGOS platform to manufacture an India-centric SUV. This SUV will be manufactured at Stellantis-Tata production plant in Ranjangaon, Pune, Maharashtra.

It is expected that both petrol and diesel powered versions of the Tata Sierra will receive the AWD setup. The SUV is available with three engine options, including a 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol, a 1.5-litre, direct-injection turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel. The turbocharged petrol and diesel versions are likely to receive the AWD option.

The Sierra ICE Engine Lineup

1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol - 104bhp and 145N, six-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox (DCT) gearbox.
1.5L Turbo Diesel - 116bhp and 260Nm (Manual) / 280Nm (Automatic). 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
1.5L Direct-Injection Turbo Petrol - 158bhp and 255Nm. 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
