Hyundai Neira could get four powertrain options. CNG and diesel versions are expected possibilities. India launch could take place in 2027.
Hyundai is reportedly planning to enter India's three-row MPV segment with a new model called the Neira in 2027. The upcoming MPV could be offered with multiple engine options, including petrol, turbo-petrol, diesel and CNG, giving buyers more choices based on their driving needs. The Neira was showcased as an electric concept at the 2026 Indonesia Motor Show. However, the India-spec model is expected to launch first with conventional engine options, while an electric version could arrive later. Hyundai has not officially confirmed the model's name, launch date or engine lineup.
Here's what we know so far about the upcoming MPV.
Hyundai could introduce the Neira in India during the first half of 2027. Reports also suggest that the MPV could be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2027. The model would give Hyundai a new entry into the three-row MPV segment, where it currently lacks a direct rival. It is expected to target families looking for a spacious vehicle with multiple seating rows. The Neira is likely to share its platform and several components with the Kia Carens Clavis. This could help Hyundai develop the MPV faster and use an existing set of powertrain options.

The Hyundai Neira is expected to get multiple powertrain choices, potentially including a naturally aspirated petrol engine, a turbo-petrol engine, a diesel engine and a factory-fitted CNG option. The engine lineup could be similar to the one offered with the Kia Carens Clavis. However, Hyundai has not confirmed which engines or gearbox combinations will make it to the production model.
The entry-level version of the Hyundai Neira could get a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This type of engine could appeal to buyers looking for a straightforward option for daily driving and family use. It could be suited to people who mainly drive within cities and occasionally take longer trips. The final power output and transmission options have not been announced.
Hyundai could also offer a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. A turbocharged setup generally delivers stronger performance than a naturally aspirated engine of a similar size. This option could appeal to buyers who want quicker acceleration and better response while driving with a full load of passengers. The engine's specifications and gearbox choices remain unconfirmed.
A 1.5-litre diesel engine could be another option for the Hyundai Neira. Diesel engines are often considered by buyers who cover long distances regularly, including highway commuters and some fleet operators. If Hyundai offers this engine, it could help the Neira appeal to customers looking for a family MPV that is also used for frequent intercity travel.
A factory-fitted CNG version could be one of the key highlights of the Hyundai Neira. CNG can offer lower fuel costs than petrol in many areas, making it an attractive choice for buyers who want to manage their running expenses. The option could appeal to families who use their cars every day, as well as commercial users who cover high daily distances. However, Hyundai has not confirmed whether the CNG version will be part of the launch lineup.
Although the India-bound MPV is expected to launch with conventional engines, an electric version could follow in the future. The Neira was showcased as an electric prototype at the 2026 Indonesia Motor Show, indicating that an EV version is part of the concept's development direction. However, there is no official confirmation of an electric model for India or its launch timeline. Hyundai could reveal more details about its plans as the expected launch approaches.
The Neira concept has a design that closely resembles the Kia Carens Clavis, although Hyundai has made changes to give it a distinct look. These include a different front-end design, revised alloy wheels and connected tail-lamps at the rear.
The concept's cabin features a dual-screen dashboard, a separate climate-control panel and a panoramic sunroof. The production-spec India model could share parts of its interior layout with the Kia MPV, but some features may change before launch. The Neira is expected to offer three rows of seating, making it a family-focused alternative to existing MPVs.
Once launched, the Hyundai Neira could compete with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki XL6 and Kia Carens Clavis. Hyundai has not announced the expected price. Its positioning will be important, particularly because the Neira is likely to share several components with the Kia Carens Clavis.
