Toyota had launched the Rumion 3-row MPV in the Indian market on August 28, 2023. It is basically the re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The Rumion is a 3-row MPV targeting budget conscious buyers looking to drive home a family people-mover.

The Toyota Rumion is offered with a single 1.5-litre 4-cylinder NA petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox option. The overall styling of the MPV appears largely identical to the Ertiga, except for the few changes to keep things fresh. The cabin changes are very limited with no updates in terms of features.

Toyota Rumion Price and Variants - Which One To Buy?

The Toyota Rumion 3-row MPV is available in 3 trim levels - S, G and V - and in total of 6 variants. The Rumion MPV price in India starts at Rs 10.44 lakh and goes up to Rs 13.73 lakh. All the prices are ex-showroom, Pan-India. 

Expert Advice - We suggest you the G variant of the Toyota Rumion. This variant gets good comfort and convenience features. The features list include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, front fog lamps, and height adjustable driver seat. The Toyota Rumion shares most of its interior & exterior features with the Ertiga MPV. It has halogen projector headlamps, LED tail-lamps, dual-tone machined alloy wheels and rear defogger. The feature list includes height adjustable driver seat, 60:40 split 2nd row seats with one-touch recline & slide, 3rd row 50:50 split with recline function and adjustable headrests.

It is fitted with a semi-digital instrument console, engine push start/stop with smart key, auto AC, remote keyless entry and cruise control. The Rumion MPV has a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, and 4 speakers & 2 tweeters.

Engine Specifications

The Rumion MPV is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that also powers the Ciaz, Brezza, Grand Vitara and the Ertiga. This engine is capable of producing 101.6bhp of power and 136.8Nm of peak torque. The powertrain comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

In CNG mode, the same powertrain produces 86.6bhp of power and 121.5Nm of torque. Power is sent to front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Toyota Rumion Mileage

The Toyota Rumion MPV with manual gearbox is claimed to offer an ARAI certified fuel economy of 20.51kmpl. On the other hand, the automatic version delivers 20.11kmpl of mileage. The CNG version is claimed to offer a certified mileage of 26.11 km/kg.

Exterior

The Rumion MPV looks largely identical to the Ertiga, except for the few design tweeks. The major difference is made to the front profile, featuring a new bumper that houses a trapezoidal fog lamp housings. It also gets a new Innova Crysta-like front grille.

The side and rear profile look exactly identical to the Ertiga MPV. It is now equipped with newly styled dual-tone alloy wheels. The MPV has a vertically-stacked tail-lamp cluster, a chrome strip on the tailgate and blacked-out treatment for the D-pillar.

Interior

The Rumion comes as a practical family MPV that offers decent space for 7 adults. The cabin looks exactly identical to the Suzuki Ertiga, featuring a clutter-free and neatly designed dual-tone dashboard layout. It houses a 7-inch SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.

The MPV features a flat-bottom steering wheel with integrated controls, automatic AC, height adjustable driver seat and others. The MPV features armrests for both front and second-row occupants, roof-mounted AC vents for 2nd & 3rd row, 60:40 split seats in the second-row and 50:50 split in third row.

Dimensions and Boot Space

The Rumion measures 4420mm in length, 1735mm in width and 1690mm in height. This 3-row MPV has a long wheelbase of 2740mm. The MPV has a ground clearance of 180-185mm, which is sufficient to tackle Indian road conditions. 

The Toyota Rumion boot space stands at 209-litres with all seats in position. The luggage space is expandable by folding the third-row seats. The CNG version has no visible luggage space due to a CNG kit fitted in the boot.

For safety and security, the MPV gets up to 4 airbags, ABS with EBD & brake assist, electronic stability program (ESP), hill hold assist, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages for 2nd row seats. The MPV also gets a rear parking camera, reverse parking sensors and front fog lamps.

Warranty and Maintenance

Toyota is giving 3 years or 1 lakh kilometres of warranty on Rumion MPV, whichever comes earlier. The company is also offering extended warranty of up to 5 years or 2.2 lakh kilometres.

The Toyota Rumion directly rivals the Kia Carens, Maruti Ertiga and the Mahindra Marazzo. It also comes as a more premium alternative to the Renault Kiger.

Performance

The Rumion shares its mechanics with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, featuring Suzuki's 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic unit. The Japanese know how to make refined engines, and the same is the case with Suzuki's 1.5L NA petrol engine. 

The engine is refined with low NVH levels, which ensures a soothing experience. The engine and gearbox combination works fine in city, as the powertrain is smooth and has limited lag even on low RPMs. Maintaining highway speeds is easy; however, one needs to plan before overtaking. For this, we suggest you use the paddle shifters.  

Comfort

The front seats are comfortable for both short and long journeys, as both offer great back and underthigh support. The height adjustable driver seat allows the driver to find the best possible driving position.

The second-row seats are designed well to accommodate two adults without much issue. Three adults can also sit well, but it lacks a headrest for the middle occupant. Moreover the rear seats come with a recline and slide function. 

It has a central armrest and roof mounted AC, which further elevates the comfort. Accessing 3rd row seats requires some effort, as second-row seats don't tumble. The space is decent for a shorter journey. The underthigh support is not great, as one sits with knees-up position.
