New Toyota Fortuner Inches Closer: Spy Shots Reveal Bold Upgrades

Next-gen Toyota Fortuner Spied Showing front design Launch expected in 2027

The next-generation Toyota Fortuner is currently undergoing rigorous testing. Following a series of rear-profile spy sightings, the 2027 Toyota Fortuner has once again been caught testing on a highway. The latest spy images give us a much clearer look at its front fascia and side profile.

While the test mule is heavily covered in thick cloth, the new front three-quarter spy shots still reveal key design updates and confirms that the legendary SUV is moving steadily closer to its production phase.

New Fortuner Rear Spied

Bolder Front Fascia

The latest spy shots confirm that the SUV has a commanding, upright stance. It features a broad central mesh-pattern grille that sits prominently behind the camouflage cutouts, flanked by substantial vertical housing actions. The upper grille merges into an angular headlamp and the horizontally placed DRL is placed beneath the bonnet line. The lower bumper houses neat horizontal elements surrounding the number plate area. The front design seems heavily inspired from latest Toyota global models, including the latest Hilux lifestyle pickup.

Familiar Side Design

The spy shots reveal that the SUV retains the rugged road presence that the Fortuner nameplate is famous for. It has a tall bonnet, an upright cabin, and generous ground clearance. Design details include pronounced wheel arches, functional side steps, and sharp multi-spoke alloy wheels. It has a rising lower window line and darkened rear quarter glass that gives a clean look.

Interiors

While the interiors are yet to be revealed, the next-gen Fortuner is expected to share the cabin layout with the latest Toyota Hilux. It is expected to feature a modern dashboard layout dominated by a larger touchscreen infotainment unit and a fully digital instrument console. The SUV is expected to offer panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, second-row ventilation, powered tailgate, and others.

A front-mounted ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) module is visible on the test vehicle, suggesting a major upgrade in active safety. It will offer features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind spot monitoring and others.

Engine Options

2.8L turbo diesel + 48V mild-hybrid setup: this engine produces 204 hp and 500 Nm of torque. The 48V mild-hybrid system assists during accelerations, and improves efficiency in stop-and-go traffic.

2.7L NA petrol: this engine churns out 164 bhp and 245 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, which sends power to the rear-wheels.

Drivetrain Options: 6-speed MT and 6-speed torque converter automatic, electric power steering, 4x4 drivetrain (Diesel Only), terrain modes and rear-differential lock.
