VinFast VF5 and Hyundai Ioniq P to launch by March 2027 Hyundai Ioniq P will be offered with dual battery options
The sub-4-metre electric SUV segment is currently dominated by the Tata Nexon, but strong competition is on the horizon. In the next 5 months, two global players - VinFast and Hyundai - are set to launch all-new compact electric SUVs to challenge the dominance of the Tata Nexon EV in the mass-market EV SUV segment.

The Vietnamese EV manufacturer is aggressively increasing its presence in the fast growing Indian passenger vehicle market. The company has already established its new local manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The VinFast VF5 will mark the brand's entry in India's mass-market EV segment dominated by the Tata Nexon EV. This crossover is designed as a budget-friendly, feature-packed urban electric crossover, and is expected to cost around Rs 12 lakh.
Battery Specifications and Range: In the global markets, the VinFast is available with two LFP battery options - 29.6 kWh and 37.23 kWh. Power figures range from 90 hp to 136 hp, with peak torque standing at 135 Nm. It is expected to offer a realistic range of around 250 km to 300 km on a single charge.
Design and Interiors: VinFast will introduce the VF5 facelift, which has recently been caught testing on foreign soil. In fact, design patents of the updated crossover are already filed in India. Some of the design highlights will include the signature VinFast's V-shaped front body lining, sleeker headlamps, connected LED tail-lights and 16-inch alloy wheels.
Inside the cabin, the VF5 will have a large free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit, which will double up as the instrument console. It will have dual-tone leatherette seats, ventilated and powered front seats, ADAS, automatic AC and more. For safety, the SUV will have 6 airbags, ESP, HAC, and LEVEL 2 ADAS.
Hyundai has officially announced to launch its new mass-market compact electric SUV, codenamed HE1i in the first quarter of 2027. Rumoured to be called the Hyundai Ioniq P, the new electric SUV will be positioned below the Creta Electric in Hyundai India's lineup. It will directly rival the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and the Kia Syros EV.
The new Hyundai Ioniq P will be manufactured at Hyundai's facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. This ensures high localization levels to keep spare parts and maintenance costs low. The electric SUV is expected to be offered with dual battery configurations. Hyundai is currently selling the Inster EV in global markets with 42 kWh and 49 kWh battery options. The company could use these two battery configurations or share the powertrain with the Kia Syros EV.
The Ioniq P will be equipped with the next-generation Pleos Connect infotainment system, which will also be offered on the upcoming third-generation Creta. In terms of features, the electric compact SUV will have LEVEL 2 ADAS active driver assist features, ventilated and powered front seats, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic AC and others.
