According to the Vahan Portal retail sales data, the Indian electric passenger vehicle industry has displayed strong growth in August 2025. As per the latest data, a total of 17,298 electric vehicles were delivered to customers in August 2025. This is a massive 155% Year-On-Year sales growth. In the same month last year, the total EV retail sales were 6787 units.
Most of the electric passenger vehicle manufacturers registered positive sales growth. The Industry expect a further rise in EV sales due to the ongoing festive season. In the CY2025 (Between Jan-Aug), a total of 1,08,751 electric vehicles were delivered to customers as against 63,583 vehicles in the same period, CY2024. This is a YoY increase of 71 percent.

Tata Motors is the country’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer, as it recorded a total sales of 7,088 EVs in August 2025. The company holds 40.98% market share in the passenger electric vehicle segment. Tata registered a YoY sales growth of 61 percent in August 2025. In the same month last year, Tata sold 4,390 passenger EVs.
Riding on the huge success of Windsor EV, JSW MG Motor climbs to second spot with 27.51% market share in the passenger EV segment. The company sold 4,759 EVs in August 2025 as against 1437 units in the same month last year, registering a YoY sales growth of 231%.
Mahindra currently hold 20.20% market share in the EV segment, thanks to the huge success of BE 6 and XEV 9e. The company reported a total sales of 3,495 passenger EVs in August 2025 compared to 337 units a year ago, registering a YoY sales increase of 937%.
The Korean automaker sold a total of 584 electric vehicles in August 2025 as against 42 units in the same month last year, reporting a YoY sales increase of 1290%. The company has a market share of 3.37% in the passenger EV category.
The Chinese EV manufacturer, BYD is slowly increasing its market share in the Indian electric passenger vehicle category. The company sold a total of 447 EVs in August 2025 as against 227 units in the same month last year, registering a YoY sales growth of 97%. BYD India has a market share of 2.58% in the passenger EV segment.
Riding on the Carens Clavis EV, Kia India electric vehicle sales jumps to 441 units in August 2025 from 20 units a year before. It has a market share of 2.54% in passenger EV category.
The largest luxury EV manufacturer, BMW India records an impressive EV sales of 362 units in August 2025 as against 71 units in the same month last year. The company reported a YoY sales increase of 410%.
Mercedes-Benz slips to 8th position with 77 luxury electric vehicles sold last month. However, its EV sales increased by good 45% (YoY).
The company recorded a sales of 20 electric vehicles in August 2025, a massive decline of 88% compared to the same month last year. In August 2024, Citroen sold a total of 162 EVs in India.
Volvo sold 16 EVs in August 2025 as against 33 units in the same month last year, reporting a YoY decline of 52%.
Porsche and Audi delivered 6 and 4 electric vehicles, respectively in the month of August 2025. Audi’s EV sales dropped by good 70%.
