Hyundai Bayon could get a factory-fitted CNG option. An underbody tank could help save boot space. The CNG version's price, mileage and launch date are yet to be confirmed.
The new Hyundai Bayon could get a factory-fitted CNG option in India, giving buyers another fuel choice apart from petrol. The SUV will initially launch with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, while the CNG version is expected to arrive at a later stage. One of the key highlights of the upcoming Hyundai Bayon CNG could be its underbody-mounted CNG tank. This setup may help save boot space, which is often reduced in CNG cars because of the cylinder fitted inside the boot. However, Hyundai has not yet confirmed the launch date, mileage or price of the CNG version.
The Hyundai Bayon was unveiled in India on October 12, 2026, and its prices are scheduled to be announced on October 26, 2026. The SUV will sit between the Hyundai Venue and the Creta in the company's line-up. The petrol version is expected to go on sale first, followed by the CNG model at a later date. The CNG option could attract buyers who want an SUV with lower fuel costs for daily use. Hyundai has not yet shared details about the CNG variant's launch timeline or the versions in which it will be offered.

The Hyundai Bayon CNG is expected to use the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine as the standard model. In the petrol version, the engine produces 115 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque. The petrol model will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or an IVT automatic transmission. The CNG version, however, is expected to come with a manual gearbox. Hyundai has not revealed the power and torque figures for the CNG version. Its mileage is also unknown, so buyers will have to wait for official details to find out how much fuel it could save.
One of the main talking points of the expected Hyundai Bayon CNG is its underbody-mounted CNG tank. In many CNG cars, the cylinder takes up space in the boot, leaving less room for bags and other luggage. If Hyundai uses the reported underbody setup, the Bayon CNG could offer more usable boot space than a car with a cylinder fitted inside the luggage area. It may also help keep the SUV practical for family trips. However, Hyundai has not confirmed the tank layout or how much boot space the CNG version will offer. These details will become clearer when the company shares more information.
Hyundai currently offers factory-fitted CNG options in smaller models such as the Grand i10 Nios, Aura and Exter. If the Bayon gets a factory-fitted CNG system, it would mark a new step for the company. It is expected to be Hyundai's first vehicle over four metres long in India to get this option. This could give buyers another choice if they want a larger vehicle but also want to keep fuel costs under control. The final appeal of the CNG version will depend on its price, mileage and features.
The Hyundai Bayon petrol range is expected to be priced between around Rs 9 lakh and Rs 17.5 lakh, ex-showroom. The CNG version could cost more than a similar petrol variant, but Hyundai has not announced its price. Depending on its final pricing, the Bayon could be considered alongside SUVs such as the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Grand Vitara. Buyers will need to compare prices, features, space and running costs before choosing between them.
Hyundai will announce the Bayon's prices on October 26, 2026, while deliveries of the initial model are expected to begin in November. These dates are for the Bayon range and do not confirm when the CNG version will arrive. The CNG model is expected to follow the petrol version, but its launch date is still unknown. Hyundai has also not shared its mileage, price or full specifications.
For now, buyers will have to wait for an official announcement to find out when the Hyundai Bayon CNG will arrive and whether its expected underbody tank will help it offer more boot space than other CNG cars.
