Vietnamese EV manufacturer, Vinfast currently has two offerings in its Indian product portfolio – the VF 6 and the VF 7. Both premium SUVs have been admired for their strong value proposition and competitive pricing, helping the carmaker register total sales of 2,390 units in FY2026. To further strengthen its presence, the carmaker plans to launch new affordable models across segments including the Vinfast VF 5 electric hatchback.
The VF 5 India launch is on the cards. However, there is no official word on its launch timeline yet. Reports suggest that the EV could make its way by 2027. Vinfast’s Tamil Nadu facility is likely to serve as production hub for the compact electric hatchback.
Vinfast plans to offer premium features at affordable pricing, and this approach has worked in its favour. Following the same strategy, the VF5 is expected to be priced around ₹14.00 Lakhs* for the base variant, and nearly ₹17.00 Lakhs* for the top trim.
Despite being an electric hatchback, the Vinfast VF5 features SUV-inspired design elements such as black body cladding and pronounced wheel arches. Upfront, the EV features signature V-shaped LED DRLs and an illuminated Vinfast “V” logo, LED projector headlamps, closed-off grille, silver faux skid plate, active cornering lights and vertical air curtain-like bumper inserts.
Other design highlights include a dual-tone roof, contrasting blacked-out A-B and C-pillars, 17-inch diamond cut alloys, horizontal taillamps, high mounted stop lamp, shark-fin antenna, reflectors integrated into rear bumper and rear wiper and washer.
The VF 5 measures 3,967mm in length, 1,723mm in width, 1,579mm in height with a 2,514mm of wheelbase. The EV offers a ground clearance of 169mm, 260-litres boot (expandable to 900-lites with folded rear seats) and a kerb weight of up to 1,340kg.
The global-spec Vinfast VF5 offers a sporty all-black theme with silver highlights on the dashboard, three-spoke steering, AC vents and infotainment display. The EV also comes equipped with a driver-oriented 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a 4-speaker sound system, front and rear USB ports, leatherette seat covers, a PM2.5 air filter, keyless entry and go, auto headlights and more.
The VF5 is already on sale in select global markets with different battery pack options - 29.6kWh and 37.23kWh. The 29.6kWh version comes paired with a front-mounted motor, producing power worth 95bhp and 135Nm of torque. It delivers a claimed NEDC range of 268km. The 37.23kWh battery model is paired with a 136bhp front motor, and promises a driving range of 326km per charge.
In the company’s Indian product lineup, the Vinfast VF 5 will be positioned between the VF3 and the VF5 SUVs. Its exact rivals will depend on the battery pack and pricing. If offered with smaller battery pack, it will compete with the Tata Tiago EV. The larger battery pack version will take on the Tata Punch EV.
