VinFast VF 5 electric SUV could launch in India. Longer than Punch EV and come with multiple battery options.
VinFast recently introduced the VF MPV 7 three-row electric family mover in India. The Vietnamese EV manufacturer is now aiming to further expand its Indian product portfolio with the VF 3 hatchback and VF 5 subcompact SUV. If launched, the VinFast VF 3 will be positioned against the MG Comet EV, Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3, while the VinFast VF 5 will rival the Tata Punch EV.
In markets such as Vietnam and Indonesia, the VinFast VF 5 is available with a 29.6kWh battery pack paired with a front-axle mounted electric motor, producing power worth 95bhp and 135Nm of torque. This setup delivers a claimed NEDC range of 268km per charge.
In select global markets, the subcompact SUV is also offered with a larger 37.23kWh battery pack, powering a front motor that’s good enough for 136bhp and 135Nm. With this setup, the VF 5 offers an NEDC range of 326km on a full charge.
Dimensionally, the VF 5 measures 3,967mm in length, 1,723mm in width and 1,579mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,514mm. Compared to the Tata Punch EV, which is 3,880mm long, 1,742mm wide and 1,622mm tall, the VinFast SUV is 87mm longer, 19mm narrower and 43mm shorter. Its wheelbase is 69mm longer than the Punch EV.
The electric subcompact SUV offers a ground clearance of 169mm and a boot space of 260-litres, which can be expanded up to 900-litres with the 60:40 split rear seats. The Vietnamese-spec model comes equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, while the Indonesia-spec version rides on 16-inch steel wheels.
Globally, the VinFast VF 5 offers an all-black cabin theme with contrasting silver highlights on the dashboard, infotainment display, a three-spoke steering wheel and the AC vents.
The SUV features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the latest smartphone connectivity, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, leatherette seat covers, a 4-speaker sound system, a PM2.5 air filter, front and rear USB ports, keyless entry and go and auto headlights.
