VinFast VF5 is Heading to India to Rival Tata Punch EV

VinFast VF5 could launch by the end of this financial year It gets a 37.23 kWh battery pack, 326km range

The Vietnamese EV maker, VinFast is preparing to launch two more EVs in the Indian market before the end of this financial year. The company is reportedly considering the VF3 and VF5 small SUVs, and the later has already been spotted testing on the Indian roads. While the VF3 will be a city-only model to rival MG Comet EV, the VinFast VF5 will rival the Tata Punch EV.

In the global markets, the VinFast VF5 is packed with a 29.6 kWh battery pack paired with a front-axle mounted electric motor. The powertrain produces 95 bhp and 135 Nm of torque. It is claimed to offer a range of 268 km (NEDC) on a single charge. It also gets a larger 37.23 kWh battery pack with a front electric motor that’s good enough for 136 bhp and 135 Nm. This version is claimed to offer an NEDC range of 326 km on a full charge.

The VinFast VF5 measures 3,967mm in length, 1,723mm in width and 1,579mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,514mm. Compared to the Punch EV, the VF5 is 87mm longer, 19mm narrower and 43mm shorter. Its wheelbase is 69mm longer than the Punch EV.

The electric SUV has a ground clearance of 169mm, which could be raised for the Indian market. It has a boot space of 260-litres, which can be expanded up to 900-litres with the 60:40 split rear seats. The SUV rides on 16-inch and 17-inch wheels.
