Aiming to strengthen its presence in the market, Tata Motors plans 30 new product launches by 2030, including 7 all-new nameplates. While the Tata Sierra has already made a comeback, Tata’s premium EV sub-brand Avinya and the Tata Scarlet (codenamed) sub-4m SUV are expected to arrive in late 2026 and 2027, respectively. Internally referred to as the ‘Mini Sierra’, the Scarlet is likely to feature boxy and upright stance with rugged styling.
Tata Motors has not yet officially confirmed the Scarlet or its launch timeline. However, this rugged lifestyle is reported to debut in the second half of 2027.
In term of pricing, the upcoming Tata Scarlet is likely to be priced in the same price bracket as the Nexon and Nexon EV. The Nexon is currently available in the price range of Rs 7.37 lakh – Rs 14.22 lakh, while the Nexon EV costs between Rs 12.49 lakh – Rs 17.49 lakh (all, ex-showroom). With rugged styling and feature list, this subcompact SUV is expected to target a different set of buyers.
According to reports, the new Scarlet subcompact SUV is likely to be built on a monocoque chassis that can accommodate both ICE and electric powertrains. The model is expected to draw several design elements from the Sierra such as tall stance, upright proportions and a bold road presence.
If the Tata Scarlet underpins a monocoque chassis, it’s could be offered with petrol, diesel and electric powertrain options. The SUV might borrow the 1.2L turbo petrol engine from the Nexon. Tata also have option to choose the Curvv’s 125bhp, 1.2L turbo petrol and new 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engines.
The electric iteration of the Scarlet SUV might be available with dual motor setup and optional AWD (all-wheel drive) system.
The Tata Scarlet will directly take on the upcoming rugged SUVs such as the Mahindra Vision S and Renault Bridger, both of which are due for late 2026 and H2, 2027, respectively. Some speculations suggest that the Scarlet might also be positioned against the lifestyle SUVs like Maruti Jimny and Mahindra Thar. However, unlike the Jimny and Thar, which are built as proper off-roaders, the Scarlet is likely to be a monocoque-based lifestyle SUV designed for urban buyers.
