Hyundai to launch a compact electric SUV by March 2027 A new 7-seater MPV and off-roader SUV confirmed for India
Hyundai Motor India is preparing an aggressive multi-segment expansion with three all-new vehicles spanning zero-emission EV, family transport and hardcore off-roading: an entry-level compact electric SUV, a 7-seater MPV, and a dedicated 4x4 off-roader.

The Korean automaker, Hyundai has announced an all-new compact electric SUV for the Indian market. Designed and manufactured in India, the compact EV is scheduled to be launched by March 2027. Codenamed HE1i, the upcoming Hyundai compact EV will be manufactured at Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur facility in Tamil Nadu. It will be a born-electric vehicle built on the E-GMP (K) platform, which also underpins the Inster EV on sale in select international markets.
The electric compact SUV will use localised Exide-sourced batteries and will be offered in two versions: standard range and long range. It is expected to be offered with the same battery choices offered with the Syros EV, including 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh. The big update that the SUV will have a “next-generation infotainment system”, which could be the Pleos Connect infotainment system, and LEVEL-2 ADAS tech. It will rival the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and Kia Syros EV.

The Korean automaker has officially announced to launch a three-row MPV in the country. The new model could be a sub-20 lakh product and will target masses. It is likely to be positioned against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Kia Carens Clavis. Hyundai has recently showcased the Neira Electric MPV concept at the GIIAS 2026, which uses the same structure and design elements as the Carens Clavis.
Measuring close to 4.5 meters, the upcoming Hyundai MPV will be available in 6-and 7-seat configuration. The MPV is likely to be offered with a 1.5L NA petrol, a 1.5L turbo petrol and a 1.5L diesel. The MPV could also get a strong hybrid engine, which will debut with the next-gen Hyundai Creta.
The Korean automaker confirms that the upcoming Hyundai SUV will carry off-road capabilities along with muscular looks. Hyundai has no product globally based on ladder-frame chassis in the global markets. The Korean automaker has filed a new patent in India, which is the Boulder SUV Concept that debuted at the 2026 New York International Auto Show. This SUV will be built on a dedicated body-on-frame chassis shared with an anticipated midsize pickup truck.
