New Hyundai HE1i Compact Electric SUV Launch This Fiscal - Key Details Out

Hyundai compact electric SUV arriving by March 2027 It will be based on the E-GMP (K) platform

Hyundai will launch the new Bayon midsize SUV and the all-new compact electric SUV, codenamed HE1i, in the Indian market before the end of this financial year. While the Hyundai Bayon is scheduled to be launched by October 2026, the upcoming compact electric SUV will arrive by March 2027.  Hyundai has already started accepting pre-bookings for the Bayon crossover. On the flip side, the compact HE1i EV is currently undergoing road testing.

This model will be a born-electric vehicle built on the E-GMP (K) platform, which also underpins the Inster EV on sale in global markets. The new compact electric SUV will be manufactured at Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur facility in Tamil Nadu. If reports are to be believed, the HE1i EV will be fitted with localised EXIDE-sourced batteries. It will be offered in two versions - Standard range and Long Range. The European-spec Inster EV is available with a 42kWh battery and a long-range 49 kWh battery packs.

The India-spec Hyundai HE1i is expected to be offered with 42 KWh and 51.4 kWh battery packs, which are offered with the Kia Syros EV.  We expect the electric SUV to offer a realistic range of over 400km on a single charge.

The new compact electric SUV will come with the next-generation Pleos Connect infotainment system, which will also be offered on the upcoming third-generation Creta. The Hyundai HE1i will also get LEVEL 2 assisted driving technology. The electric SUV will be longer and wider than the global-spec Inster EV. Featuring a boxy stance, the electric compact SUV will rival the likes of the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and the Kia Syros EV.

Key features likely to include ventilated front seats, sunroof, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging pad, Hyundai BlueLink services, OTA (over-the-air) updates, automatic climate control, ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) and more.
