Hyundai’s Nexon EV Rival Launch by Year-End; Fast Charging, Pleos Connect

Hyundai has officially announced to launch 2 new SUVs before the end of this financial year. The next big launch from the Korean brand will be the Hyundai Bayon, which is scheduled to be launched by October-November 2026. Hyundai will also enter the sub-4 meter electric SUV category with an all-new model by the end of this year. Codenamed HE1i, the upcoming Hyundai compact electric SUV will rival the likes of the Tata Nexon EV, Kia Syros EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.
The new Hyundai compact electric SUV will be manufactured at Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur plant in Tamil Nadu. The electric SUV has been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads. It is confirmed that the new Hyundai EV will debut the brand’s Pleos Connect centre screen, which will also be offered with the next-gen Creta. The latest sighting shows different headlamp structures, which suggests that Hyundai could offer different design elements on different variants.
Another big update is that the Hyundai compact electric SUV could support fast charging up to 120 kW. In fact, the test mule was spotted at a charging station with a 120 KW rating. Battery and charging specifications are yet to be revealed. There are rubber flags to protect the AC and DC ports against water ingress.
The upcoming model features a boxy, upright stance complemented by large windows and a flat roofline. It will have aero-optimised dual-tone alloy wheels and compact horizontal rear lamps. The spy images reveal that the SUV will have a large central touchscreen infotainment unit. The Pleos Connect centre screen is most likely to size around 17-inches. It is expected to get features like panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats, powered driver’s seat, and ample space in the second-row. This will be a born-electric SUV, not an ICE-converted unit.
The new Hyundai compact electric SUV is expected to feature a high-density NMC battery, which will be co-developed by Hyundai and Exide energies. It is expected to be offered in two versions: standard range and long range. It is likely to be offered with 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh batteries, with later expected to deliver over 500km range.
