Korean carmaker Kia has unveiled its EV3 SUV on Thursday. The EV3 blends bold design, advanced technology and new-age features. To note, the SUV sits first in line ahead of EV5, EV6 and EV9. Because of that, a lot of interior and exterior bits are shared with the bigger SUVs.
In essence, the EV3 looks like a mini version of EV9 and gets a ‘star map’ LED design. The EV3 also gets the signature tiger nose grill with LED elements. However, the DRLs are not connected. The alloys on the sides look futuristic with a plus shape and there’s black cladding for the SUV stance as well.
At the back, the spoiler has received an extended treatment and the taillights look LEDs. Length, breadth and height dimensions are 4.3 mm, 1.8 mm and 1.5 mm, respectively.
Right off the bat, the interior gets ambient lighting, a 12-inch head-up display, a personal AI assistant and a 460-litre and 25-litre boot and frunk combo. For the HVAC controls, there is a dedicated 12.3-inch floating touchscreen with a few buttons for that haptic feel.
Though compact, the inspiring exterior envelops an open interior space that emphasises restorative relaxation for every journey. Its future-facing aesthetic is further emboldened by the choice of daring colours; inside, the spacious cabin and the incorporation of new organic materials express a youthful sense of energy and playfulness, said Karim Habib, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design.
With a WLTP driving range of up to 600km and fast charging capability, the EV3 addresses common concerns about electric vehicles. Two variants will be offered: EV3 with a 58.3kWh battery pack and the EV3 LR which boasts an 81.4kWh battery pack. Peak engine output remains at 201 bhp and 283 Nm of torque. Sprint to the 100 kmph mark comes in 7.5 seconds. It will reassure those who may have been hesitant to make the switch to electric mobility and will lead the mass adoption of EVs, said Ho Sung Song, President and CEO at Kia.
Through groundbreaking design, an industry-leading electric drivetrain, and practical, innovative lifestyle solutions, the EV3 aims to extend Kia's exceptional EV SUV experience to a wider audience.
While it would go on sale in June in South Korea initially, we expect the SUV to come to India sometime next year or in 2026. It is priced in the USD 35,000 to 50,000 price range, which roughly translates to Rs. 30 lakh to Rs. 42 lakh.
