Maruti Suzuki Fronx Facelift

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx compact crossover has been generating volumes for the Indo-Japanese automaker ever since its arrival in 2023. Attributes such as modern styling with compact footprints, feature-packed interior, ride and handling and fuel-efficient powertrains have worked in its favour. The Fronx is now set to receive its first major midlife update, and several spy images and videos have already revealed several key details of the new 2026 Maruti Fronx facelift.

Launch Date

Maruti Suzuki is yet to announce the official launch date and details of the updated Fronx. However, frequent test mule sightings suggest that the model is in its final testing phase and might hit showrooms during the second half of 2026 or early 2027.

Expected Price in India

With subtle design changes, the addition of an ADAS suite and enhanced features, the new Maruti Fronx is expected to witness a decent price hike. The strong hybrid version is likely to command a premium of around Rs 1.50 lakh – Rs 2 lakh over its ICE counterpart. The compact crossover lineup is currently available within the price range of Rs 6.85 lakh – Rs 11.98 lakh (ex-showroom).

Key Features

Spy shots suggest that the new Maruti Fronx facelift will retain its original design language and upright stance. Major of visual changes will be made at the front fascia. The compact crossover is likely to feature a slightly revised grille, a tweaked bumper and updated LED lighting elements. The side profile will remain largely unchanged, while the rear section could receive new taillamp detailing and a revised bumper.

One of the test mules was spotted with a LIDAR (light detection and ranging) unit and ADAS calibration equipment, confirming that the new Fronx will be offered with an ADAS suite. However, it could be reserved for the higher variants. The feature list might include a new and larger touchscreen infotainment system, an updated instrument cluster and ventilated front seats.

Engine Specifications

According to media reports, the Maruti Fronx facelift will receive a major upgrade in the form of a strong hybrid powertrain. It will become the first Maruti Suzuki to feature the brand’s in-house developed series hybrid powertrain (codenamed HEV). This new hybrid setup is said to be more economical than Toyota’s Atkinson cycle hybrid system and is expected to be based on the Z12E petrol engine. The same hybrid powertrain will also power Maruti Suzuki’s mass-market models in future. With this new strong hybrid powertrain, the new Fronx is expected to deliver a fuel efficiency of up to 35kmpl.

The existing 100bhp, 1.0L Boosterjet turbo petrol and 90bhp, 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine might also be carried forward. The MY2026 Fronx will be available with both manual and AMT gearbox options.

Competition

In terms of pricing, the new 2026 Maruti Fronx will continue to challenge the Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter, Tata Nexon, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and other sub-4 metre SUVs in India.
