Skoda To Reveal Name Of Its Nexon, Brezza Rival On August 21

Skoda has announced that it will reveal the name of its upcoming SUV on August 21. Earlier this year, the Czech carmaker came up with the ‘Name Your Skoda’ campaign to shortlist a few names, including Karmiq, Kymaq and Kayaq. The only rule was that the names should start with ‘K’ and end with ‘Q’, which is the standard nomenclature for its ICE-powered SUVs. Over 200,000 entries were submitted out of which 10 would win a trip to Prague, Czech Republic. It will rival the Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Brezza upon launch. Skoda Sub-Compact SUV: Platform, Features Heavily camouflaged test mules of the SUV have been spotted several times, revealing key aspects. It is going to be under 4 metres and Skoda will reportedly use a shortened avatar of its made-for-India MQB-A0 IN platform. For reference, the larger Slavia and Kushaq are underpinned by the same architecture. Second, the cabin will be equipped with a 10-inch touchscreen unit supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8-inch driver’s display, wireless charging and sunroof.  Skoda Sub-Compact SUV: Engine, Safety Technologies Talking about the powertrain, we expect it to have the familiar 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine belting out 114 bhp and 178 Nm of pull force, mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. Its safety quotient is expected to be in line with Skoda’s other cars besides ADAS, six airbags, ABS, EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system and rear parking camera.  Also read - Maruti Grand Vitara BNCAP Testing Underway, 5 Stars?

Skoda's Tata Nexon Rival Launching In January 2025

Skoda Auto aims to enter the highly competitive sub 4m segment by introducing its new compact SUV in the Indian market. Expected to be launched in the first half of 2025, it will become a great challenger to the Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Skoda is yet to decide on the name of its upcoming compact SUV. However, a few names were shortlisted previously by the brand including Kayaq, Kliq, Kaiq, Karmiq, Kyrog, Kosmiq, Kwiq, Kariq, Kymaq, and Kylaq. Skoda Compact SUV: Platform, Design Language Skoda will use the MQB-A0-IN platform for its smallest SUV. This platform also underpins the Skoda Slavia and Skoda Kushaq. But, for the sub 4m SUV, the automaker will tweak the platform for accommodating shorter wheelbase. Further, the all-new compact SUV will be the brand's first car to use the Modern Solid design language in India. This design language reflects the simplicity, solidity and quality of Skoda cars. Exterior Design and Interior Features The exterior details are yet to be revealed, however, the brand has shared a few design sketches online, hinting at how the car may look in its production-ready avatar. Skoda claims that their new offering will exhibit a bold and muscular shape around the fenders. It will feature a hexagon pattern on the side and rear profile. It will also have a high ground clearance. Based on the teaser images, it is clearly visible that the compact SUV will have LED headlights with LED DRLs, a signature front grille, LED taillights, a chunky rear bumper, and a roof-mounted spoiler. The interior of the upcoming Skoda car has not been teased yet. However, being the smaller version of the Kushaq SUV, we can assume some of its features will be carried over to the new compact SUV. These might include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated front seats, automatic AC, a 2-spoke steering wheel, and an electric sunroof. Powertrain As for the powertrain, the upcoming Skoda compact SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This engine can produce 113 bhp of power and 178 Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Rivals, Price Expected to compete against the Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Brezza, the Skoda compact SUV could be priced between Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). Besides, the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet, and Hyundai Venue will also be on the rival list. Also Read: Tata Curvv Unofficial Bookings Open - Launch On Aug 7
