10 Cars That Should Return To India

10 Cars That Should Return To India

Over the years, India has gone through different kinds of car models which have become favourites to car enthusiasts and daily users in society. As with any trends and developments, there are several cars which they look back fondly and wish could be produced again. Here's a look at some iconic models that deserve a second innings on Indian roads -  Volkswagen Polo Popular for its tough build and good handling, the Volkswagen Polo has been embraced by lovers of hatchbacks. Models such as the GT TSI featured a turbocharger that generated 103 bhp of power and 175 Nm of torque, making it a thrilling package overall.  Ford Endeavour The Ford Endeavour represented robustness combined with comfort and it created new standards in the SUV market. Powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine delivering 168 bhp and 420 Nm torque, it simply handled the terrain of the city as well as rough terrains. There was a 3.2-litre five-cylinder engine on offer as well that produced 197 bhp and 470 Nm.  Tata Sierra The Tata Sierra is a real legend of the Indian automotive industry since it had a rather aggressive-looking exterior and a large cabin. The large rear window panel design and three-door format were way ahead of its time. While its electric iteration is nearing launch, it would not hurt to revive this SUV coupe with new ICE engines.  Skoda Octavia Class and performance were the two major areas under which Skoda Octavia was regarded as a prestige vehicle with good mechanical design. Extended to the Octavia RS which is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI engine producing 227 bhp and 350 Nm of torque, which indeed provided more performance and great handling. Don’t forget those 18-inch alloy wheels on the RS 230. Nissan Kicks A car that attracted a lot of attention during its initial years was Nissan’s entry in the compact SUV segment with the Kicks which was praised for its excellent design of exteriors and interiors with requisite features. Notably, the 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine was developed in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, which also featured in the A-Class. Honda Jazz The Jazz was a stellar product from Honda which was extremely high on space and comfort. What also helped was the i-VTEC 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that was high on refinement and performance. A new Jazz from Honda would be just the right entry at a time when the sub-compact hatchback segment is lacking sales. Mahindra Alturas G4 Despite Mahindra’s focus on the luxury brand with its positioning of the Alturas G4 as a new-generation premium SUV, the vehicle could not convert the same into good sales numbers. However, with buyers attracted to the SUV segment in the present scheme of things, Mahindra can capitalise on this and relaunch its Alturas G4 in the domestic market. Honda Civic The coming back of the Honda Civic would turn the heat again on the sleek-looking and high-performing sedans. Though the Japanese carmaker did try to bring back the whole aura of the OG Civic recently, it was not appreciated by car buyers and had to be discontinued. A digital speedometer in the 2000s was the selling point of the car which looks nice to date. The 2006-2010 model had a 1.8-litre i-VTEC engine which powered 138 bhp and 174 Nm torque. Overall, the car was fun to drive with optimal reliability from Honda. Mitsubishi Pajero Regarded as an adventurous and dependable vehicle, the Mitsubishi Pajero was a success story that is fondly remembered in India. The Pajero was immensely popular among politicians and true offroading enthusiasts. An update in the current line with raising off-road performance and hybrid powertrains would be seen as beneficial by both off-road fanatics and people who are conscious of environmental issues.  Maruti Suzuki Kizashi Suzuki’s try at participating in the premium sedan segment with the Kizashi fared fairly well when it nailed the refined and potent 2.4-litre petrol engine developing 175 bhp and 230 Nm, respectively. With the arrival of a new edition sporting changes in the exterior and interior design as well as with the support of hybrid powertrains from Maruti could turn this car into a worthy participant in the segment of premium sedans.  Also read - Top Reasons Why Mahindra Scorpio Classic Is So Popular

Find Out the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Safety Rating

Maruti Suzuki Fronx is an all-new mid-size SUV that has hit the Indian market. This car creates a lot of interest among people with its stylish design and good features. The compensation for safety ratings for potential buyers has become one of the most important factors. Who Provides the Safety Rating? These ratings are usually given in most countries, including India, by organisations such as Global NCAP, ASEAN NCAP, Australian NCAP and Bharat NCAP. Organisations like these label vehicles based on standardised crash tests and evaluation criteria. Why is Safety Rating Important? The safety rating helps buyers make information-driven purchase decisions. A higher safety rating means a vehicle is generally equipped with more crash protection features, and lowers its potential of serious injury or fatality in an accident. Safety Features of Maruti Suzuki Fronx Maruti Suzuki Fronx gets a long list of safety features, including: Airbags: In its top-spec model, the Fronx comes with six airbags. These are dual front, side, and curtain. This gives the occupants some decent coverage from collision ABS with EBD: The availability of ABS and EBD prevents the locking of the wheels during hard braking and thus improves the stability and braking performance of the car. VSC (Vehicle Stability Control): This system helps maintain cornering without slipping or skidding and increases general driving dynamics.  TCS (Traction Control System): A wheel slip limitation system for improved vehicle stability when road surfaces are slippery.  HHC (Hill Hold Control): The car won't roll backward when on a slope, making it easier to start uphill on vertical slopes. Anti-Theft Alarm: This car model comes with an anti-theft alarm provision that safeguards the vehicle itself and its contents. ISOFIX Anchors: The Fronx has ISOFIX child seat anchorages into which a child seat can safely be attached. The car is based on the Heartect platform. It has usually got quite low ratings, like 0–2 stars, in the past. However, Maruti Suzuki has claimed to have made improvements in the safety features of the Fronx, which only further testing will confirm. Though an official safety rating has not been received as yet, some reviews by users on the safety aspects of the Fronx have been mixed. Some of the users who like the way it drives and its safety features have appreciated it, while others feel the lack of a reliable safety rating is something that prevents them from buying it. Conclusion The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is a very vibrant prospect for an Indian SUV, but the safety rating has generally been a problem for buyers. Available safety features are manifold, although the overall safety performance remains questionable since the GNCAP rating seems missing. Maruti Suzuki has claimed to have improved safety in the Fronx, but these have to be maintained in full-function crash testing. Until GNCAP tests the Fronx, buyers are recommended to base purchasing decisions on available information about safety and user reviews. Read Also: What Is the Safety Rating of Hyundai Venue

Maruti Grand Vitara BNCAP Testing Underway, 5 Stars?

Maruti Grand Vitara BNCAP Testing Underway, 5 Stars?

In a YouTube video shared by Prateek Singh on Wednesday, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara was seen undergoing crash testing at a Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) facility. However, the agency has yet to post the results of the same on its website. Reports suggest the compact SUV will get at least four stars. Stay tuned to CarLelo for the official scores.  The Grand Vitara, based on the Global C platform, also underpins cars including the Brezza which scored a four-star rating in 2018 in the erstwhile regime of Global NCAP. With major carmakers like Tata and Mahindra shifting to extremely safe cars, Suzuki will aim to up the safety quotient of its vehicles, which has been controversial over the years.  What is BNCAP? Launched on October 1, 2023, the Indian New Car Assessment Program, more commonly referred to as BNCAP, is the country’s voice on vehicle safety. Cars of varying body types are crash-tested and performance is assessed on safety features and technologies. Then, a star rating is given out of five to indicate relative safety performance. The BNCAP is developed for a significant reduction of road facilities and serious injuries in survivable crashes. “The new safety regime under BHARAT NCAP and AIS-197 is a mutual win-win for manufacturers and consumers,” Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said in a tweet earlier.
