Hyundai Next Gen i20

The fourth-generation Hyundai i20 made its global debut in the Brazilian market in June 2026. The hatchback has received significant design changes along with technology and feature enhancements. With a full generational upgrade, the i20 has moved away from the old platform and now sits on Hyundai’s new K3 architecture, which also underpins the new Kia Seltos.

Launch Date

The official launch timeline of the all-new Hyundai i20 for India is yet to be revealed. However, the premium hatchback is expected to hit our shores sometime in 2027.

Expected Price in India

Considering the significant design changes, features and tech upgrades, the next-gen Hyundai i20 is expected to command a noticeable price hike. The hatchback lineup is currently available within the price range of Rs 6 lakh – Rs 10.48 lakh (ex-showroom). In India, the fourth-generation i20 is likely to retain the existing variant nomenclature. For the Brazilian market, it has been introduced in five trims – Comfort, Limited, X Line, Platinum and Ultimate.  

Key Features

The new Hyundai i20 carries a more SUV-ish stance rather than the sporty hatchback styling. The front fascia looks all-new with dual-pod pixel-styled LED headlamps, halogen turn indicators, Y-shaped DRLs (daytime running lights) connected by a light bar, a sculpted bonnet and a revised bumper with a honeycomb pattern air inlets and black cladding on the lower section.

Other design highlights include newly-designed 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, sleeker ORVMs, thick black cladding on the wheel arches and lower side profile, a black shark-fin antenna, C-shaped LED taillamps connected by a slim light bar, a faux silver diffuser and a black rear bumper with reflector on both sides.

The fourth-generation Hyundai i20 offers a more premium and feature-loaded interior than the current model. It has a dual-tone cabin theme and a dashboard integrated curved panoramic panel, housing a larger touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. The hatchback comes with a newly-designed three-spoke steering wheel with Hyundai’s new illuminated Morse code ‘H’ logo along with paddle shifters.

Additional premium touches include silver finish on the speaker grille, unique vertical lines on door panels, retro-looking handles and semi-leatherette upholstery with ‘i20’ inscription on the backrest. The rear bench seat offers adjustable headrests and three-point seatbelts for all three passengers along with a 60:40 split-folding function. However, it misses out on a rear centre armrest.

Engine Specifications

Hyundai hasn’t yet revealed the powertrain specifications of the India-bound new i20. However, the hatchback lineup is likely to retain the existing 84bhp, 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and 120bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol engine options. Just so you know, the 1.0L turbo petrol engine with 100bhp state of tune is sold in select global markets.

The South Korean automaker is also developing an all-new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which is set to debut in the upcoming Hyundai Bayon-based compact crossover during the second half of 2026. This engine will be compatible with hybrid technology, and could play an pivotal role in the electrification of Hyundai’s future models. Hyundai might also consider this new gasoline engine with the fourth-generation i20.

Competition

In the premium hatchback segment, the 2027 Hyundai i20 will continue to take on the Tata Altroz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza.
