MG Starlight 560 India: Explained in 5 Key Points

JSW MG Motor India has announced a new series of new-energy vehicles based on the brand’s new ADAPT platform. The brand’s next NEV will be an all-new SUV based on the Wuling Starlight 560, which has been spotted testing numerous times on the Indian roads. This 3-row SUV is engineered to bridge the gap between Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) practicality and full electric vehicle (EV) running costs.

Here is everything you need to know about the MG Starlight 560 in 5 key points.

1. A Platform Built for Multi-Energy Options

The Starlight 560 will represents a strategic evolution in MG’s Indian portfolio. Underpinned by brand’s ADAP multi-powertrain platform, the new 3-row SUV will sit comfortably between the Hector and MG’s full-size flagship Majestor. By leveraging a flexible architecture, the Starlight 560 offers a substantial 2810mm wheelbase and an overall length of 4745mm. In fact, it is longer than the XUV 7XO and offers the segment longest wheelbase.

2. Game-Changing PHEV & EV Powertrains

Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV): The Plug-in hybrid version comes equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine supported by an electric motor and a 20.5kWh battery pack. It offers a combined power and torque output of 194bhp and 230Nm, respectively. The SUV offers a pure electric range of 100km and a total range of 1100km  (including the 52-litre fuel tank), as per the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

New MG Electric SUV

All-Electric (BEV): The electric version is packed with a 69.2kWh battery pack and a 201hp front-axle-mounted electric motor. It is claimed to offer a CLTC range of 530km on a single charge.

3. Upright Stance and Bold Design

Instead of crossover’s rounded design, the Starlight 560 gets a boxy, rugged design. It gets the high bonnet line with dual-tier LED daytime running lights, a wide dark grille (blanked-off on the EV variant), and a prominent lower skid plate. The SUV rides on 18-inch dual-tone machine-cut alloy wheels. Other design details include functional roof rails, blacked-out pillars, upright tailgate with wraparound LED tail-lights and aggressive bumper.

4. High-Tech Cabin

The SUV Gets the MG’s digital-first interior styling. The dashboard is dominated by a floating 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment display alongside an 8.8-inch digital driver display. Physical buttons are available, but the climate controls are integrated directly into the screen. In terms of features, the SUV gets a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree surround view camera, 6 airbags, ESP, and a LEVEL-2 ADAS suite.

5. Expected Price and Competition

Expected to be priced in the range of Rs 20 lakh to 30 lakh (ex-showroom), the MG Starlight 560 will be one of the most accessible Plug-in Hybrids in India. The PHEV version will directly challenge the Mahindra XUV 7XO, which will also receive a hybrid setup in 2027. The all-electric derivative will directly compete with the Mahindra XEV 9S.
