Launched in September 2024, the MG Windsor EV is undoubtedly a segment disruptor. The electric MPV has surpassed the Tata Nexon EV, which had been dominating the electric vehicle (EV) space since its launch. In October, Tata Motors’ market share in the EV segment declined to 58 percent, compared to 74 percent in the corresponding month last year. The Windsor EV contributed to 30 percent of total EV sales in October 2024, with bookings averaging at least 200 orders per day.
Let’s explore what factors are working in its favor and what are not.

The Windsor offers a perfect blend of the versatility of an MPV and the practicality of an SUV. Attributes such as a spacious cabin, flexible seating arrangements, and high comfort levels make it an ideal choice for family and business car buyers.
The competitive pricing further enhances its appeal. MG’s BaaS (Battery as a Service) rental service program reduces the upfront cost by allowing buyers to rent the battery separately. Under this rental scheme, buyers pay a nominal charge per kilometer driven—Rs 3.5 per km.
The overall build quality of the Windsor is robust, and the interior feels premium. The electric MPV features a well-designed and spacious cabin, with ample legroom and headroom for rear-seat passengers. It includes “aero lounge seats” with a 135-degree recline for the rear seats.

The Windsor’s 134bhp electric motor ensures a perfect balance between power and efficiency. In real-world conditions, the electric MPV offers a range of 250 km, which is adequate for daily urban commutes.
Buyers can choose from four drive modes—Eco+, Eco, Normal, and Sport. These modes allow drivers to select between efficiency, performance, and balanced settings. The EV’s adjustable regenerative braking system not only extends its range but also adapts to the driver’s driving style and comfort.
The Windsor EV offers a massive boot space of 604 liters, providing ample room for luggage and regular groceries. However, its top-end variant offers slightly less cargo space (579 liters) due to the inclusion of additional features and components.

The new MG EV comes with an extensive list of features, including a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, ventilated front seats, connected car technology, OTT apps, 135-degree reclining rear seats, electronic flush door handles, a panoramic glass roof, and more.
Not all buyers may resonate with its MPV styling, especially as many customers currently prefer SUVs and crossover designs.

The range of 250 km is relatively low compared to its primary competitors. A larger battery pack could cater to those who frequently drive long distances or experience range anxiety.
The rear suspension isn’t as refined as expected in this price range. The Windsor EV’s ride quality is slightly stiff and may not be comfortable for rear-seat passengers.
The new MG EV lacks some important features, such as ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) technology, a height-adjustable seatbelt, a rear wiper, and a spare wheel. Buyers can purchase a spare wheel at an additional cost.
The absence of physical buttons could be inconvenient for some users.
Initially, the air conditioning system struggles to cool the cabin. This is due to the large glass surfaces, including the panoramic roof and windshield, which retain heat and reduce cooling efficiency.
