BYD Leopard 8

The Chinese automaker, BYD is planning to launch multiple new Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles in the Indian market. The BYD Seal U and Atto 2 have already been spotted testing on the Indian roads. Additionally, BYD has filed a design patent for the Leopard in India. It is a body-on-frame, plug-in hybrid luxury off-roader, which is on sale under two BYD sub-brands - Fangchengbao Bao 8 and Denza D8 - in select international markets.

BYD is yet to make an official announcement on the launch of the Leopard 8. It could be launched sometime in 2027 as a fully imported model.

The new Leopard 8 will most likely be launched as a fully-imported CBU model and is expected to be priced around Rs 80 lakh to 1 crore.

Key Features

The new Leopard 8 is a full-size SUV measuring 5195mm in length, 1994mm in width and 1905mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2920mm. It comes with an aggressive front, featuring 6-slat grille, rectangular headlamps connected by a thin LED strip, black cladding and a muscular silver skid plate. Other design highlights include blacked-out pillars, large alloy wheels, squared-off cladding, a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, a flat rear windscreen, rectangular tail-lamps with C-shaped DRL signatures and chunky skid plate.

The new BYD Leopard 8 comes with a triple screen setup comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument console, 17.3-inch infotainment unit and a 12.3-inch passenger display. It gets a four-spoke steering wheel, dual wireless charging pads, an aircraft-style gear selector, etc. Other features include ambient lighting, auto park assist, an 18-speaker sound system, and more. It is available with both 6-and- 7-seat options.

Specifications

The BYD Leopard 8 gets a plug-in hybrid engine consisting of a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, a 36.8kWh battery and a dual-motor setup. The combined power and torque output stands at 748bhp and 760Nm, respectively. Power is transmitted to all-4 wheels via an e-CVT automatic. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in just 4.8 seconds. The SUV is claimed to offer an all-electric range of 100km, and a total driving range of up to 1200km.
