BYD Sealion 6 PHEV

Chinese automaker, BYD (Beyond Your Dreams) aims to achieve double-digit growth in India this year, with a strong focus on the premium segments. The company currently has four models in its product portfolio including the BYD Atto 2, BYD Leopard 8, BYD Sealion 7 and BYD eMax7. The recent sighting of the BYD Sealion 6 PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) hints that the carmaker might be considering its India launch.

The India launch of the Sealion 6 PHEV is still under consideration. As of now, there is no official word on its arrival or launch timeline.

Even if India is on the launch radar, the BYD Sealion 6 PHEV is estimated to be priced between ₹50.00 Lakhs* – ₹55.00 Lakhs* (ex-showroom).

Key Features

The BYD Sealion 6 is a premium family SUV featuring futuristic styling and advanced technologies. It adopts BYD’s “Ocean Aesthetics” design philosophy and features a conventional grille, LED projector headlamps, double U-shaped LED DRLs, bumper with horizontal slats and silver skid plate accents at the front end.

Other design highlights include 19-inch aerodynamic dual-tone alloy wheels, silver-finished roof rails, electrically adjustable mirrors with integrated indicators, black cladding around lower body and full-width connected LED taillights.

The cabin gives a lounge-like premium experience with a dual-tone theme, leatherette seats, RGB mood lighting, powered, ventilated and heated front seats and a large panoramic sunroof. The SUV also gets reclining rear backrest, 8-way adjustable powered driver seat, PM2.5 air filtration, 10-speaker Infinity sound system, dual 15W wireless chargers and several convenience features.

One of the major highlights is the massive 15.6-inch electrically rotating touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, built-in navigation and OTA updates along with a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster.

The Sealion 6 also comes with a comprehensive list of safety features, which includes Level 2 Adas, 7 airbags, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, electronic stability control, Isofix child seat mounts, tyre pressure monitoring system and more.

Engine Specifications

In global markets, the Sealion 6 SUV is offered with 1.5L naturally aspirated and turbo petrol engine options, paired with either an 18.3kWh or a 26.6kWh battery pack. The former setup delivers a maximum power of 218bhp, while the latter offers two states of tune – 324bhp and 344bhp.

The PHEV SUV uses BYD’s “DM-i” (dual model-intelligent) hybrid technology, where the electric motor mostly drives the wheels, while the petrol engine works as a generator or an assistant during high-speed cruising and hard acceleration. The Sealion 6 is claimed to return a combined driving range of up to 1,092km.

Competition

In India, BYD’s plug-in hybrid SUV will directly take on the upcoming Jetour T2 PHEV, which will be introduced under JSW-Chery partnership during 2026 Diwali season.
