BYD Seal U Hybrid SUV - 1,200 KM Range, 126 KM EV Mode

BYD Seal U launch confirmed for India. Offers 126 km electric-only driving range. Delivers over 1,200 km combined driving range.

BYD is preparing to launch its first plug-in hybrid SUV in India later this year. Called the Seal U, the SUV is already sold in several overseas markets and is also known as the Sealion 6.

The upcoming model is expected to attract buyers looking for the benefits of an electric vehicle without giving up the convenience of a petrol engine for long journeys.

126 KM Driving Range in Pure EV Mode

One of the biggest highlights of the BYD Seal U is its ability to drive on electric power alone. The SUV offers a claimed 126 km electric-only range, allowing many users to complete their daily commute without consuming any petrol.

This makes the Seal U a practical option for buyers who want an EV-like driving experience but may not be ready to switch to a fully electric vehicle.

More Than 1,200 KM Combined Range

For longer trips, the Seal U combines its battery and petrol engine to deliver a claimed driving range of over 1,200 km.

The SUV uses BYD's latest DM-i Super Plug-in Hybrid technology, which is designed to prioritize electric driving. The system automatically switches between EV, hybrid and petrol-powered modes depending on driving conditions.

Powerful Hybrid Setup

Powering the Seal U is a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, dual electric motors and an 18.3 kWh battery pack.

The hybrid powertrain generates 319 BHP and 550 Nm of torque, helping the SUV sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds.

Globally, the Seal U is offered in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions.

Designed for Efficiency

BYD claims the petrol engine used in the Seal U achieves a thermal efficiency of 43.04%, while the electric motors operate at an efficiency of 97.5%.

The company also states that the engine alone can deliver a fuel efficiency of 20.80 km/l, making the SUV highly efficient for long-distance travel.

BYD's Hybrid Push in India

The Seal U will mark BYD's entry into India's plug-in hybrid segment. With demand growing for vehicles that offer both efficiency and convenience, the new SUV could appeal to customers who want electric driving for daily use and petrol-powered flexibility for road trips.

With a 126 km EV mode, over 1,200 km combined range and strong performance figures, the BYD Seal U is shaping up to be one of the most interesting hybrid SUV launches expected in India this year.
