BYD Seal U

Chinese automaker BYD is currently selling four models, including the BYD Atto 3, BYD Leopard 8, BYD Sealion 7 and BYD eMax7. The company is now looking at the plug-in hybrids to further boost sales in the fast growing Indian market. The BYD Seal U Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle or PHEV is the next big launch from the Chinese EV brand in our market.

BYD Seal U Launch Date

The India launch of the Seal U PHEV is still under consideration. As of now, there is no official word on its arrival or launch timeline. A possible launch around Diwali, 2026 can’t be ignored.

BYD Seal U Expected Price in India

It will be launched as a fully imported model and will attract high taxes. The Seal U is estimated to be priced in the range of Rs 50 lakh to Rs 55 lakh, ex-showroom.

Key Features

Marketed as a premium family SUV, the new Seal U is based on BYD’s “Ocean Aesthetics” design philosophy. Design highlights include a traditional BYD grille, LED project headlamps, double U-shaped LED daytime running lamps, and elegant-looking bumper with horizontal slats and silver skid plate accents.

The SUV rides on 19-inch aerodynamic dual-tone alloy wheels. Other design highlights include silver-finished roof rails, electrically adjustable mirrors with integrated indicators, black cladding around the lower body and full-width connected LED taillights.

Inside the cabin, the SUV gets a dual-tone theme, leatherette seats, RGB mood lighting, a large panoramic sunroof, and electrically adjustable front seats with ventilation and heating functions. The SUV also has a reclining rear backrest, an 8-way powered driver seat, 10-speaker Infinity sound system, and a dual 15W wireless chargers.

The PHEV gets a massive 15.6-inch electrically rotating touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, built-in navigation and OTA updates along with a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster.

For safety and security, the BYD Seal U gets 7 airbags, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, electronic stability control, Isofix child seat mounts, tyre pressure monitoring system and more.

Engine Specifications

The BYD Seal U is powered by a 1.5L naturally-aspirated with 18.3 kWh battery and turbo petrol engine with 26.6 kWH battery options. The former is good for 218bhp, while the latter offers two states of tune - 324bhp and 344bbp. The EUV uses BYD’s “DM-I” hybrid technology where an electric motor drives the wheels, while the petrol engine works as a generator or an assistant during high-speed cruising. It is claimed to offer a combined driving range of up to 1092 km.

Competition Check

BYD Seal U won’t have a direct rival in our market, but it could face some competition from the upcoming Jetour T2 PHEV.
